They're expecting to change the law about mobile phones and driving from next year. :old:

Actually holding or even touching a mobile whilst driving will become illegal. This will include using it as a satnav or for taking a photo - not illegal at the moment. You will have to be parked and stationary to use it - and being stopped in traffic or at lights doesn't count as being parked. I don't know, yet, how they would view sitting in a traffic jam.

You will be able to use a hands free system.

At the moment, the only proposed exception is in an emergency where it would be unsafe to stop.

How many of you can honestly say you have never held a mobile whilst in your car and not parked?

I can categorically state that I have never done it :pathd: - I don't have a mobile :loll:

Never use one when driving, but will use one when parked (with engine stopped) as i used to make phone calls to the transpot office

well making it law won't stop them breaking it, see lots around here using when driving and they get away with it because of no police to stop them even when you report them with picture's you see them still using phone's

Most of us were driving around in the late 90's whilst holding and talking into a mobile phone.
Now there is no excuse to do it.
The bluetooth hands free is brilliant..(it should be a legal requirement in new cars)

My gaster is flabbered yet again. Do people really need to be told that it is not a good idea to take a selfie when you are hurtling down the motorway with your family in the car?

On the other hand, I suppose we do need to try and protect potential Darwin Award candidates.

Programming an onboard satnav whilst driving will also be illegal. You will not be allowed to take your hands off the wheel but are able to use a voice activated one (hands free).

There are some people calling for hands free to also be illegal (it does distract to a certain extent) but I don't think that will get passed.

In some ways I agree about hands free, I do find it distracting, but mostly on the odd occasion when someone phones me, in the car, trying to find the tiny button on the steering wheel to answer it.
God why are all car buttons so small, and you need a microscope to read the stupid symbol telling you what they do

Is it still legal to use a good old fashioned paper map/road atlas balanced on your knees, resting against the steering wheel?

Wait until they make you wear a crash helmet.

I'll be OK because my chauffeur could wear the crash helmet. :paladin:
