I think it’s easy to find flaws, but when it boils down to it, it’s ‘humans’ that are spreading the virus. Looking for someone to blame? Blame them.

But that does beg the question of - for how long, and to what end? Until the virus is eradicated? Probably, it never will be now. Surely the aim of the restrictions is to take the pressure off the NHS and give us some breathing space while an enhanced track & trace system is put in place.[/QUOTE]

      Naive mode<on>...
For how long is up to our fellow man, isn’t it? If ‘we’ all played our part, the virus wouldn’t stand a chance, would it?
      Naive enough mode <off>
I have no confidence in the T@T system, it’s obvious to me, at least, that folks won’t take a lot of notice. The scepticism in this thread alone proves that. That just leaves us with a vaccine. No doubt, there will be a certain amount of scepticism directed towards that, but I’ll be standing in line for my ‘shot’. Like most (everyone?) On here, I’m not a virologist, so one has to have a little faith. No difference really when one has to have a little faith for a whole host of complaints.

I'm not so sure we can forecast the virus' demise - after all, flu, and even polio, still exist. But of course it can be held in check. Until recently I was very much of the "let's just lock everything down for as long as it takes" persuasion, but with time I've grown more sympathetic to the need to reduce economic risks. Its easy for me to propose lockdowns because most of my income is currently from the public sector and relatively secure, but I know people who are now on the verge of losing everything, and the potential risks this poses to life and health are also a real, serious problem.
For me, the only obvious thing in this whole mess is that obvious solutions hold very little water once you look into them in detail.

There is so much being said about Covid-19. With respect. The hue and cry goes out and we all become knowlegeable. Why not? We are all involved, like it or lump it.

Not in any way lowering the tone, but it's so easy for us, whoever we are. To find fault and criticise the powers to be and all those taking the lead in the fight to master this epidemic.

Lockdowns have been tried, many lives have been sadly lost. Advisory measures given out by scientist etc have at times been ignored. This virus may or may not have similarities with others. Speaking generally. WE have of course turned to our medics. Our NHS has stood up well. Especially if and when we consider countries that have no general medical services.
I feel strongly that we now have to stop, running away from this virus. WHY? We close down, then reemerge and the virus is still out there. Our medics have soldiered on, always puting their lives on the line. PPE has been a major thing.

Sorry, but another old saying comes to mind. When cornered. The worm fights back. This is what we now need to do. Fight back. Not go and hide. Provide good PPE for everyone. Get back to work, even if we have to go about looking like aliens.
The human body is so wonderfully made. It has the power to ward off most things. Let's be reasonable. How much longer can the powers keep on grabbing money from the air. Look back over history, to what mankind has faced upto. Sometimes even simple things work. So it's wintertime, wet and cold. Wrap up. Get out there and do your best.

Questions are asked. Why are Black and Asian folk more liable to get this virus. Hells Bells. This virus attacks our respiritory system. These folk sadly are prone to certain medical conditions. Sickle cell- anemia. This is a condition where the red blood cells resemble tiny sickles. It has to be recognised that Red blood cell have to be of near perfect shape. Another Red blood cell matter is. Thalassemia. In this case. The red cells are much smaller than usual. This reduction in size and in the case of sickle cell. These cells are unable to carry suffiecient oxygen around the body. The passage of the oxygen treats and supporets all the areas and organs, keeping them fed and cleaned. Defects here sadly result in many problems. Also with our Black and Asian brothers. Medical conditions such as, hair lip, and cleft palate, are quite common. Hair lip & cleft palate, for your infomation are the result of a misfortunate lapse in time, when in the feotal process, the two halves, left and right of the facial tissues miss the target time in the course of pregnancy.

          So sorry for wandering off.

Remember what Xmas shopping is normally like? Shops packed with wholes families with 2 (or more) trollies blocking your way, checkout queues going all the way down the aisles, etc.

Might be a bit different this year. We hope to finish ours within the next week or so.

I don't think they'll have enough delivery drivers/vans to cope with this lot. Maybe there'll be half a dozen school students dressed as elves in full PPE onboard every van, shaking buckets collecting for some worthy cause, milling around your front door and offering to put all your shopping away in the wrong cupboards.

Haven't been Christmas shopping for many decades. Bah Humbug! :old: :heehee:

Last Christmas day we were helping out here (no, it's not our religion :))

And New Year's Day helping at this orphanage

We used to help serving New Year's Eve supper to the down and outs (homeless, druggies etc.) in a town near us but it has gotten too much for us nowadays.

Sorry, but if we are to spend the rest of our days going about 'looking like aliens' or unable to see and hug our loved ones, then pass me the pills and a big bottle please, because I would rather not be around.

Yes, it is easy to find flaws - especially when there are so many of them; worse still, the critical questions that should be being asked of our government are not - folks are more interested, for whatever reason, in sensationalising and amplifying the problem.

How many beds are in your local hospital? How many of those are currently in use? What is the average rate of deaths in your area at this time of year? What is it this year? Of those, how many were caused by (not died with) Covid? What are the age ranges of those with and without underlying health conditions?

How many positive cases are there still active (still infectious) in your area? What does that figure relate to as a percentage of population? How many of those who have tested positive are asymptomatic or suffering only mild illness (and as a percentage of population)? How many are suffering serious illness/complications (and as a percentage of population)? How many have had the virus and recovered fully (percentage of population)? How many have ongoing complications (percentage of population)?

Now, if all of that data there is not available within a fairly short timeframe and on an ongoing basis, then something is very wrong indeed. None of that is radical, none of that is far right/conspiracy theory - none.

With that sort of data, not only do folks who have underlying health conditions or are elderly have the knowledge with which to make an informed decision about keeping themselves and others safe.

Instead, we are living in a country where in one part of it, they have just banned the sale of books.

So whilst you are staying at home you can't buy a book to read, or a new cushion for your bonce.
Amazon will be rubbing their hands.

                        Absolutely.

It might be a rumour, but I hear that the Welsh Labour Party are in the process of sorting a new logo.. apparently the red will become the border now, white background, and a black cross-like thing on an angle....
