John, either I'm not being clear enough or you're not understanding my post properly as......

There is only one Leader of another country where the comparisons were being made and that is the USA. Boris has never denied that Covid 19 exists, or that masks should not be worn, and I believe he doesn't like or play Golf, so my reference was to Trump. If I wasn't clear enough then I sincerely apologies.

Because that figure is not truly a statistic until used in a comparison and as a bench mark against other statistics. Recorded total deaths in either country issued daily are just that until it is used to compare other figures. As regards your question "in fact, why worry about anything if every country is under or over reporting" I totally agree with that. My point is trying to compare death in ratios, especially inaccurate figures, only gives you inaccurate answers. I used the figure of 286, 521, inaccurate as it is for various reasons, when it is basically said that the UK is suffering deaths from Covid 19, in ratio, as much as the USA is proves and serves nothing. We have lost, generally accepted, approximately over 62,000 at a rate of basically a small Village a day while the USA, again generally accepted, has lost approximately 287,000 at the rate of a small town a day which figures can be taken, and used if wished, to prove that A is doing better than B, but for what aim? Me?, I recognise that the figures quoted every day are inaccurate for many reasons, but I don't accept that they are deliberately inaccurate as it seems, at times, it is inferred to be. So, stats, comparisons used in that way, knowing that they are inaccurate, are anathema to when used to bolster an opinion or argument as I take those figures personally.

I find it interesting, some of the comments made by people in the street. The majority appear to say that the various lock-downs should have and should be for longer.

Even with the help of the vaccines. I can't see this virus totally going away. Similar to the common cold or flu. It hangs around and mutates.

Either the flu or Covid-19 attacks the respiratory tract in many ways, this leads to the lungs becoming affected. The Bronchii of the lungs become weak in time. The overall action of the lungs deteriorates, so that oxygen flow to the organs of the body, becom inhibited, the blood supply can become waek and starved of valuable oxygen. So as time passes, although the actual virus may become weak or even appear to have gone. The trail of damage remains. In time this remaing damage can lead to all kinds of medical problems. Our bodies actually record everything. I had, what was then termed. Double pneumonia and congestion of the lungs, when I was ten years old. All these years later, a chest X-ray shows the scars, and I am asked a series of questions.

Regarding all the charts and figures. I believe that the world population now realises that this virus is a killer. It knows now boundaries and it is proving the experts sadly wrong, as now. The Government's insistance of keeping kids at school, has backfired.

There can be no doubt. This virus has hit HARD and can be said to have changed the world as we knew it. Regarding the education of youngsters. Surely it's not brain surgery to come up with a nationwide online/TV program of the classroom. If need be. Extend the education time by a year. After all said and done. Youngsters leaving school, uni or whatever. There's no jobs out there. Just my take on the situation. Stay Safe.

If you changed 'our' to 'their' that sentence changes to the USA rather than the UK, that was the confusion I guess?

Sorry still not getting your point in the
rest of your reply, going for a lie down as my brain hurts.

I don’t think I’ve ever taken the statistics as gospel, to me they are indicative. Meanwhile, over 3,000 deaths recorded in one day in the US. Not so “tremendous”...

U.S. has statistics that are almost incomprehensible to me. Approx. 40,000 deaths by gun violence per annum. :rolleyespink: Maybe their collective attitude to deaths is different from those people in the UK.

                Dreadful

“Over 1,436,000 people have been killed by guns in the U.S.A. since John Lennon was shot and killed on December 8, 1980.”

There is no evidence that the vaccines developed for the corona virus or any other vaccines, developed over the years, cause the virus or bacteria they protect against to mutate.
The virus will continue to mutate at it's usual rate and the vast majority of mutations will not affect it's interaction with people.
There was serious concern about a mutation found in the virus affecting mink might jump back to the human population and spread rapidly. The entire mink population of Denmark was culled and it didn't spread significantly outside the small number of people infected. The reason for the concern was that the mutation affected the spike protein which most of the current vaccines target,

I think Marks got it wrong here. Relax restrictions over Xmas so that there is a greater chance of us spreading the virus and then go into lockdown.

That's bolting the gate after the horse has cleared off.

Updated covid control plan to be published on Monday with warning Wales could move to highest restriction level after Christmas

In the spirit of Coronavirus comments, I'm waiting for somebody to say that X,000's of those people shot would have been about to die of something else anyway, so those figures are a load of nonsense.

My granddaughter was diagnosed a health condition Thalassemia . She was ok until she had shingles just after starting school. She was admitted into hospital for tests and put on a drip . When she was five the Thalassemia showed its face.affecting her immune system.
Since then her attendance has gone down hill.

But through the internet she has always had chance to catch up with home work.
I feel they got it wrong in sending children back to school. My daughter kept her away from school for a long time ,though doctors said she would be ok. Come September and things had slowed down she went back to school.
Three days in mum was phoned "can you collect your daughter from school keep her in isolation , she is coughing a lot , and a high temperature.she says it is her asthmatic cough but we dare not take chances."

Before her 14 days were up all her year was sent home one of five girls with symptoms in her form rushed to hospital and is still on a ventilator. .

Everyone was doing homework from the internet.

So instead of schools going back why can't they continue like this , relook at education and extend the school years some how?
Surely there is an answer instead of putting our vulnerable youngsters amongst covid.

Our young are the adults ,leaders , scientists, etc of the future generations.

Thank you Black Orchid for you kind concern.

Yes I had my jab this morning. The second jab is booked for 2/1/21. I have to be honest, and admit I had always been fearful of needles etc. Having watched the injections being given in the TV News. The process might well have been frightening to some. In reality, the needle is short. The setup at Guy's hospital. London was as expected very well organized. This I feel gave patients a feeling of contentment. A few questions were asked of each patient. Allergies etc. Then onto another member of the team. Just a small scratch. OK. All done. In all honesty, I never felt a thing, albeit, I couldn't resist my take of of the GOONS. 'You've deaded me' The nurse was probably too young to even have heard of the goons. Now a sit down for 15 minutes, just in case any wobbly feelings. The offer of a cup of tea or coffee.

I then went upstairs to the urology unit. I was here for ages. My temporary plumbing was removed. Some lip bighting and strange mouthed sounds from me. Sadly although several glasses of water went in. Zilch came out. So I returned home atound 17.00 hrs with a new catheter. I have this for three months. So as the late Ken Dodd would say. 'Tas been a fine day.'

Heartfelt post Purple Streaks. If I may, for the benefit of forum members. The medical condition known as Thalassemia is a blood condition. Here the red cells are much smaller than the usual. As a result of their smallness, the oxygen carrying capacity is below what the average body requires. In a similar instance. Sadly a blood disorder known as, sickle cell, that can cause anemia, is found to be a health problem with many ethnic groups. Like Thalassimia these two problematic disorders are traced back to Medditerranean and Aciatic bloodlines.

The basic effects of sufferes is that during the body's circulatory system, the red cells in the blood are unable to to carry enough oxygen to the vital organs. As a consequence some organs fall short of performing 100%. So in the case of a youngster. The child suddenly becomes victim to say, a simple winter snotty nose. There may be a temperature increase. So good old mum, keeps kiddo home from school. Teachers etc have no understanding of the long term situation, and so hand out threats of summonses etc. In short. A child, in particular with eithe medical condition should be treated as an an indivisual case.

I totally agree with Purple Streaks take on. Our kids of today, are the prospective rulers of tomorrow. My own stance about sending kids back to school has proved right. I believe that in Australia many kids are taught on-line etc. So why not here?
