    Hello all

I have a water feature and am looking at replacing the Corrugated Pond Hose which runs from the Pump in the Reservoir, up the middle of the Basalt Column and exits at the top.

I am needing to replace it as I did not do it properly the first time and I also need better access to the pump.

    22-09-2019_08-51-15_0006.jpg

The thing I am trying to work out is how to seal the Corrugated Pond Hose where it exits the top of the feature.

The hole in the Basalt Colum is approximately 32mm in diameter and the Corrugated Pond Hose is 20mm Internal Diameter, approximately 24mm Outside Diameter.

So, I need to find a way to close a gap of approximately 8mm so that the Corrugated Pond Hose sits central and snug in the hole but can be removed if needed.

I have thought of a few solutions, unfortunately some are more permanent which is not what I want.

Would wrapping Closed Cell (PE) Tape around the Hose and then seating the Hose work?

I know PE Tape is waterproof but would it work submerged?

    Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Thanks in advance

    Kevin

    Hi,

Afraid a waterproof seal and easy removal do not go together as a rule.

How about running a 20mm abs pipe up its length and attach the corrugated hose at the bottom with a hose clip ? Aquarium shops or other diy/plastic places or online stock that pipe and fittings

For the outlet at the top you could use a fitting fashioned to be a push in fit and sealed with just a little silicone so its still easy to remove, though less likely as its eay to clean a hard pipe.

      Hello @ricky101

      Thanks for the reply.

Where the hose exits at the top just needs to be a snug fit, not necessarily watertight, just so the hose stays in place.

      Thanks

      Hi,

Think almost any such tape wound around the pipe to act as a tapered plug should do.

Would probably try gaffer tape, supposed to be waterproof or even some rubber draught sealing tape if your CC tape does not work.

      Hello @ricky101

Thanks, I shall try the PE Tape first, hopefully that will work.

Next job with the Water Feature is to remove all the pebbles and place some wire mesh over the grid which has smaller holes in it as the current grid has 50mm x 50mm holes which is letting all kinds of debris through.

I just need to work out how to cut a hole in the centre of the Wire Mesh Sheet to go over the Water Feature as there is no way I can move it by myself, it is approximately 80Kg, and there is no one I can call on.

      All fun :)

      Thanks

      Kevin

Thinking on the lines of @blackstart would this reducer attached to your 20mm hose work?

      Hello

      Thanks for the replies.

@mazambo , I have ordered the Reducer which should work fine, hopefully.

If it is too snug I can always just sand off the barbs.

      Thanks

      Kevin

For fitting the mesh sheet, I'd use wire snips to cut a straight line to the centre, cut out the appropriate size hole to accommodate the feature, twist the sheet slightly to get it into place, then perhaps use a few twists of thin wire to rejoin the cut. Alternatively, two parallel cuts to give you a rectangle of mesh which you replace after sliding the sheet around the feature, but that wouldn't be as strong as the first method.

If I may. Havin some practical experience in the plunbing trade.. I have also learned much from the medical world. In this situation. I'd work from the top down. Using plastic tubing etc, there are so mant push fit connections available.

      Hello all

      @noisette47

Thanks for your suggestion, I did think of doing that but it would be difficult to get a good cut around the Basalt Column.

I have decided to get a small section of Mesh, approximately 300mm x 300mm, cut it to shape around the top of the Basalt Column and then transfer that template onto a larger piece of Mesh, it should work, hopefully.

      @mazambo

Thanks for your suggestion to use the Hose Reducer, I did order the 32mm to 20mm Reducer you listed but it would not fit in the hole of the Water Feature so I have ordered the next size down which is the 25mm to 20mm Reducer, I will then just tape it to make it a snug fit.

Next step will be to purchase more Black River Pebbles and spill them over into the border to fully cover the grid.

      Thanks all

      Kevin

        Hello all

Well. the new Hose and Reducer is in place.

As expected, I had to wrap the 25mm to 20mm Reducer, I used 20mm x 5mm Foam Tape and once the Reducer was seated in the top of the Water Feature the fit was a nice snug one.

One thing I did not take into account was that because I have used a longer length of hose to facilitate easier access to the pump, the pump can not now pump enough water out of the top of the Basalt Column.

So, it looks as though I may need to upgrade the Pump which is currently a 1500lph to the 2000lph model.

        All fun.

        Thanks for your help.

        Kevin

        Hello all

        I hope you are well.

        Just a quick update.

The new Pump (Pondo Compact 2000) was delivered today.

It is now in place and the Water Feature is now performing much better.

        Thanks

        Kevin
