If she can shield (work from home?) then it is probably safest to do so; indeed, I know for a fact that there are employers who have had people going into offices etc when in all reality folks could work from home still and if everyone that possibly could have worked from home continued to do so, we may well not be where we are now.

It is and it isn't. Somebody got some maths wrong so a number of people in the trial got a half strength first dose followed by a full strength second dose. Interestingly this resulted in a 90% effectiveness, they are not quite sure why and further trials are ongoing to test more people with this doing pattern as well as trials with the Russian Sputnik vaccine where you get one dose of one followed by the other a fortnight later. These trials will report part way through next year.
The problem with the dosing is one reason why approval is taking a little longer, the other problem was that the error didn't affect enough participants and was not fully representative of the population as a whole to be treated separately.
As a born again pessimist I went with a lower number.

Covid-19: Tighter restrictions likely, Sir Patrick Vallance warns

Further restrictions are likely to be introduced in England to control the new variant of Covid-19, the UK's chief scientific adviser has said.

Sir Patrick Vallance said measures could "need to be increased in some places, in due course, not reduced".

                    So WTF does that mean?

                    Increasing some locations Tier ratings?
                    Introducing additional, higher Tiers?
                    Additional restrictions within existingTiers?

                    Meaningless.

I'm seeing parallels with mad cow disease here.

This new variant as they are now calling it appears to be wide spread, but we are making a big issue about it, so we get punished and locked out.
The rest of Europe are saying nowt , and just getting on with it.
