Not gardening as such but needed to move a bird feeder, a rush job as it's bloomin freezing out there. The squirrels have destroyed the bottom of the clinging feeder I put a another one on and they've started on that, best i can come up with at the moment, got to laugh it looks like a gallows:heehee:

Well, the ol’ pooch has been a little poorly lately - anyone would think that she’s nearly 14 yrs old or something..... Anyway, this means that our normal long Christmas-time walks have been sharply curtailed. Yesterday she was basically unable to use one hind leg, and was crabbing with a bent spine, as she tried to walk. Trip to the vet determined that she has a very swollen hip, hence was unable to just lift the paw off the ground and hop on 3 legs. A nice big anti-inflammatory injection later, and she’s a lot happier today.

We had thought we could manage a 2km forest walk (a short walk for us), but she started hobbling a little whilst supervising a bit of leaf-raking off the edge of the drive / drive beds, so we’ve just done a 3/4 hour session of leaf-raking by the lounge and patio. Most of the leaves are hoovered up by late season mowing, but the oaks below and down-wind of us only dropped their leaves a couple of weeks ago. I know leaving leaves to lie is good for invertebrates and other wildlife, but not on the grass and spring bulbs. The grass being free is important for poop-clearing. Rotting oak leaves can get confused with other things in winter grass :th scifD36:. And I love to see the spring bulbs as they start to break through the soil. I think I enjoy those on a winter's day as much as the flowers in spring!

Both leaf-clamps are once more overflowing. They’ll soon settle down again, ready for another hour's leaf-raking in a few days time....

Aww bless her, Sian. Glad to hear the vets have got her feeling a bit more comfortable. I wish our doggies would last as long as we did. :doggieshmooze:

So I do not need to come around with my hose then;)e
There always seem to be a story to tell... but should I show that although I rarely lose my temper but the few occasions that I have it tends to be rather dramatic...
Well I try and keep it short.
In our Bexhill home then and had the end of garden neighbours cause us a lot of noise disturbance, many times
There seems to be a fashion of hiring a band in one's garden with the largest speakers possible so that the whole of Bexhill would 100% share in their celebrations...We had a hot tub in a wooden gazebo and happily having a splash about and WHAT the hell was that..it was like being at that Beatles Concert in triplicated and tripled...I got out of the hot tub, picked up the Hose which was handyby..took it to the end of the garden and sprayed over the fence to more screams and cries and the lucky for me laughter....One of my nicknames became on a regular basis...Hose.....
just found a photo of the area in question...that was the ducks area...looks crowded now...

@mazambo I have trouble with squirrels and got feeders that are metal instead of plastic and that works.

@Sian in Belgium glad that your pooch is doing well now.

Saw some posts about wildlife in the garden and posted a video from earlier when there was a visitor to the frozen pond in the garden here earlier today. Only a bit of walking about and trying to figure out where to do some more planting for me in the garden today.

All the best in the new year!

I have been working on this area on and off now for a couple of weeks. It had been completely ignored for a year or more...The digging out of the grass and weeds is mainly hard work because some have deep deep roots and are real tough little blighters. Already I have transplanted some plants there from self seeders and parting some others at the roots. Good old Ajuga again will fill out in the spring along with Hardy Geraniums some Grasses already in situ and Polyanthus that have appeared in bundles of Joy in the lawn (hardly a fit name to be honest farm style grass)amongst the weeds just everywhere..it is their Year by the amount I have now, when only last year their were few freebies. The largest rock was there when we moved in so then added more rocks..at the moment they are not in their final position...ongoing and changes to that rockery will be made.
You can see some green mesh on the left which is about a metre out from our old boundary wall...protection from the pesty hunting dogs that live behind that wall.Plum trees and a climbing rose are behind the green mesh, in the far left corner we have grown from a pod seed a shrub that could be a Wisteria, already climbing well near the climbing rose.[IMG]
