Old thread here: The Tatties Thread 2020

I'll mainly be growing Winston First Early and Setanta Main Crop with very good blight resistance.

Winston I'll start chitting as soon as they arrive from Kings Seeds hopefully in the next couple of weeks, for a very early start in containers in the greenhouse.

Trying those for first time this year and have got them on order from JBA, together with some Kondor. Will also be growing Kennebec again this year.

Boring old me bought some Pink fir apple seeds yesterday.
Not sure why, but the last couple of years I've not found them in the bigger bags, so had to settle for paying OTT and buying those silly ones with only ten tubers in a bag.

I peel them after cooking, yeah a real pain, but I think they are unique enough to make them worth the hassle.
I think lots of people might just not bother, not any different to all those washed ones you get in supermarkets that most people eat with the skin on.

I'm happy to eat them with their skins on, I'm either posh or lazy.

I bought Winston last season, they were awful when cooked, planted some supermarket ones that started sprouting and they were brilliant tasting.
Ok I know it's not PC to use supermarket Potatoes as seed, but..............

Used to grow Arran Pilot years ago, and I think we also had Arran Banner. Mind you. The local greengrocer used to provide us with a mixture of King Edwards and Whites if customers only wanted large spuds.

Makes me chuckle at times with supermarket spuds. Baby New Pots. Couple of days in the kitchen and they are sptouting away merrily.

Funny how they vary, year to year and with different growing conditions. I've grown Winston for the past 4 years and for yield, earliness and taste they have been excellent. On the other hand my Setanta have been good for the previous years except this season's harvest are breaking up when boiled, so no mashed potatoes. This wasn't a problem with them previously. Still good for roasties, chips and jackets.

Medwyn has only just discovered rooting seed spuds before planting, when some of us have been doing it for years
