I believe that I mentioned a friend who was a german soldier in WW2.
I am uncertain of the correct spelling of his name. English pronunciation = Bill. Nersersky. Probably german was. Wilhelm . I met Bill whilst driving for the MOD. Both Bill and I drove for a unit called. CRE. London. It was the civilian counterpart to the Royal Engineers. Our job was to drive surveyours etc ro and from military establishments.

Bill, had been Rommel's driver during the war. He always spoke highly of Rommel, and according to my late father, so did all who had known Rommel. Somewhat ironic but. Bill was the staff driver for the head of CRE. Mr Rosen, was that head. Mr Rosn was believed to be Jewish. WW2 was over and done with.

As most of us have since learned. During those war years and the preceding years. Rhe german military was taken over by the Nazis. Athough soldiers were expected to fight, defend and kill. The professional soldier always had a respect for his enemy. The Nazis had NO respect for anyone or anything. Even in germany, a local citizen could be shot at the whim of a Nazi. So having even a smattering of knowledge of what went on. I doubt if Britain would ever become a comparrison.
Apologies for the long winded post, but despite the fact that Brits probably cheered when german cities were destroyed by us. Many german people who had no fight, died as a result of a Nazi bullet.

With due, and sincere, respect to all, I would ask that we now return to the main theme of this Thread which is the ongoing pandemic.

Well. I'm off to get my second jab tomorrow. My appointment has been changed to 1645. To me, this indicates just how stretched the NHS is. So I see no reason to moan. OK it's going to take about an hour to drive some 9 miles to the hospital, but probably the staff doing the jabs have been at work all day. How I honestly wish, I could help.

Amandii. I agree with your comment, but may I ask. Just how?

Many of us have and continue to speak and compare conditions relating to our local area. We, I included have probably voiced our opinion on the virus, without, but with respect to everyone. We know very little about the virus itself.
So what is the next move. Do we phone the police and report next door who have got a couple of visitors. So we, stop going with Shiney early in the morning to get some groceries.

A total lockdown should be just that. All shops and businesses closed. Streets empty. Self employed having to stay at home and go hungry. If so. For how long. This is a world-wide pandemic. It's a wonder that someone hasn't claimed it is an act of GOD. Who knows, What do we know. Fogive me but I go along with freedom of speech etc. Perhaps we might all check over our comments and replies prior to posting. Truly. This really is the friendly gardening forum. Please keep it this way.

Well, I didn't know I was being unfriendly, Mike:dunno:, I was just asking, with respect, that members be allowed to continue to express their opinions and views regarding their own predicament and others about the pandemic situation.

You've lost me, Mike, I have stated in this thread, and on other occasions, that when posting we should ask ourselves if the post would be offensive we should think first, think again and then not post. So I honestly don't see why you are reiterating what I said........

This is a friendly Forum, Mike, which I why I asked, with respect, that we continued with the thread and not prolong the situation with more comments.

Armandii. My apolologies if you have misread me. I hold the same in great respect. OK at times our wording comes out wrong. Apologies. Call it a day. May our sincere friendship remain steadfast.

I agree with this and also think the nitpicking needs to stop. Taking literal meanings from ones that are obviously not meant only makes matters worse. I, for one, shall not contribute to this thread again as it is too upsetting to see the arguing and misunderstandings amongst friends.

Best wishes to all - and stay safe.

I wasn't trying to close/end the thread @ARMANDII merely quoting the "ended" from Wikipedia. I don't want the thread to be closed either, I am happy to continue reading everyone's views and opinions.

I can see the point @Fat Controller was making and it doesn't offend me in the slightest, it was a bit extreme maybe but not as bad as the comment I made a few days ago accusing the rule benders/breakers as being 'murderers'. That was also meant with no malice towards the particular people bending the rules, just a generalisation.

I also agree with @pete about nit-picking, it's just that a few of us can't help noticing what our neighbours are up to.

Lets face it none of us have been through anything like this in our lives, we don't know what's coming next which is disturbing and worrying. One thing brings us all together is our common love of plants, nature and gardening, which unites us. So lets keep posting even though some of it may appear negative, we have to face facts. Sometimes just writing down your personal view helps even if you know it is not going to be well received by the majority.

On a brighter note I just heard I've been accepted as a volunteer to help with the vaccine roll out, not sure what I'll be doing maybe help with transporting medicines. The Royal Voluntary Service need people to help in all areas, I can post a link if anyone wants to sign up.

Algarve put up a temporary Covid Hospital in the Portimão Stadium so as not to overload our hospitals as we have agreed to take overflow from other Regions. It will hold 100 patients and yesterday they took the first two transferred from Faro. This is not for critical care patients.

On Monday (today) a back support structure will be activated in a hotel in Alvor, in the municipality of Portimão, with a capacity for about thousand people, destined to decongest hospitalization and to welcome elderly people who have to be in isolation.

Seems like we are doing our best to help the rest of the country as we are not in such dire straits.

Thank goodness for that - just got to dig in deep for this last stretch:

All over-50s and everyone who is at greater risk from Covid will be offered a vaccine by spring, under new Welsh Government plans.

Interesting. Must admit we have lapsed from the early days where we cleaned and quarantined all incoming stuff. Now we just wash our hands after handling it.
