Can birds safely eat a sheep food mix?

My last sheep passed away a few months ago and I still have a large sealed bag of her sheep food, it's a mix of assorted seeds, 'cornflakes' and compressed pellets.

I'm wondering if it's okay to put it out for the birds.

I guess they'll just ignore the pellets but there's a slight concern that some of the larger birds may eat them and the pellets will then swell up inside the bird and make it ill (or even kill it).

I could of course try and sift out the pellets.

I don't know about sheep food but I've had countless generations of black birds raised on dried cat food.
Even seen a Robin eating it.

I would guess that the pellets are likely to be sugar beet, which would swell with moisture so I would say it isn't wise. Is there anyone locally with sheep or goats that might appreciate the feed?

It should be ok, as you allways see birds around cattle/sheep when they are fed, don't put too much out at one time, there are lots of different pellets from big one (1 inch round) to small one's half the size of a pencil, if you can put a bit of moisture on the pellets a day or so before you put them out that will help the pellets to break down a bit and will be easyer for the birds, but be carefull if the sheep food has any Med's added to the food but this is made just for your sheep with info from your vet

Sheep/cattle food is a mix of all sorts of ingredents today

I did the same, I recall cattle cake was a mixture of cereals and molasses. If it was rebranded as a pricey healthy vegan breakfast product it would sell well in Waitrose.

I might be concerned about smaller birds choking on the pellets. Are there any animal rescues near you that you could perhaps donate to:)
