Most of the chippings is actually the twiggy branches of a Norwegian spruce (aka Christmas tree) that have been through a shredder. One of the trees was still healthy, so quite a few needles too. The largest “chips” are no more than 2cm across, and are flattish, rather than cuboid, in shape. The compost bays are each 2 metres - 2x1x1, and normally break down woody prunings (eg rose-prunings) quite well. I’m putting the chippings in, in thin layers, and holding back the sacks to add in similar layers between the lush spring grass-cuttings, when they come...

    spring is coming, isn’t it...?!

thank you, @Jasmine star . I’m still keeping well (I've had to cancel a couple of physio appointments due to the quarantine, but this was to treat a problem that has been causing pain for over 6 months, so “hey ho!”); hubby is still quite sick. He is what I would describe as “kitten weak”. Instead of half-skipping down the stairs this morning as he normally does, he came down cautiously, both feet onto one step, than the next one - like an old woman. The coughing seems to be exhausting him, and he’s starting to wheeze ... he’s one week into the symptoms ...

oh boy, can I relate to your shed-key story. Heart-felt sympathy here!!

@Sian in Belgium that's good to hear you are both (coughs) well.

Hmm he sounds like he's managing.

Re the shed.......I got a sarcastic reminder this morning before he went to work. "You going to be ok with getting in the shed today" he's pushing it :roflol:

Hopefully physio will get you back as soon as they can.

Unload grit and compost from car. Plant up freesia bulbs bought the other day. Sow seeds from Silverhill Seeds and chitted pea seed (Early Onward)

Not much to do in the garden at this time of the year, gave the Lonicera fragrantissima a trim but I don't like to remove too much as the bees are drinking from the flowers, my heavy clay soil is still too wet to do anything productive with. I finally cut down the Anemone japonica stems which I had forgotten to remove in late Autumn. Viola odorata 'The Czar' are in bud, can't wait for them to flower, love their intense fragrance! :)

Haha Dianne, I really should go to Specsavers:gaah:( more like Xlarge size here)

I think with the weather warming up it’s tempting to order new shrubs and even a few small
Ground cover plants, but maybe I should wait another month ( I’m on the impatient side!)

The broad beans look alive enough despite the snails attack.
I placed them in one bed aside of the path, which the snails do not seem to like much. However, it is also one of the best spots for tomatoes and squashes, so by the first week of June the brosdbeans will have to go, hopefully after a productive spring.

Cleared some of the blackberries, without too many incidents. A fox pilfered one of my gloves, so I bought again the same model. They look the same as the old ones but are perhaps a bit thinner and the thorns go through more easily.

Also, the neighbour swapped some fence panels causing a wall of climbers to collapse. Actually, I was not too fond of those, so I might just trim it all down to the stumps, and plant some edible climbers instead.
