Friends. Forum members. Compassion. Here I am stepping aside from my love of roses, aka. Rosa Compassion. No. I am trying to express my concerns as to how members comments are accepted and treated. Even if I was writing as an ex member of Gradeners Corner. I honestly would continue to praise the forum and its membership. I have experienced some sad open forum experiences. One gardening forum. One miute I was the cherry on the cake. Next, daggers drawn and I was the most hated person around. That same forum really raised my anger. A forum member has has a serious mishap. She came from Northumberland. Simple but so drastic accident. She bent down to pick up something, moved too quick and ended up with a brain hemmothage. Sorry for misspelling. Zara was given the most horrible treatment.

Thankfully here on GC, folk are more loveable. Nevertheless. I notice the odd member, who despite what the might say. Replies often have a bit of a nasty edge to them. OK. Fair do's, we all have our faults and shorcomings. Might we take stock. Not all of us had a good education. One thing we have in common is. We have a passion for gardening. So please, one and all. When reading members posts try and picture our much loved friend. Perhaps a lady of liesure, the mum at the wash tub. We all have feelings. No, no. I am not saying, treat some as your lessers. Please try and show, in your comments, some compassion and understanding.

Any gardener is ok with me whoever they are.
I was sorry to see 'plant assassin' leave G.C... she always had a good input. I guess some people are more sensitive than others and we don't always know what situation their life is in at any given time. I've not noticed much animosity on G.C thankfully

In my opinion people who love Gardening and Animals are good people.

Mike, when we write something It's not always meant to be nasty, you can't possibly know if that person is chuckling as they write.

I think if you go on any forum you have to be prepared and able to take a little bit of flak at times.
As long as its not really nasty and personal and its mostly disagreements I dont see the problem.
I find it usually blows over if there is a problem.

The best approach I find is to walk away and things nearly always seem different tomorrow.

I've obviously missed something here as I dont know what has brought about your post Mike?

Neither do I and I think it best to not even mention it, whatever it was. It only stirs up more trouble.

Like @pete I ignore/walk away as most times (not all) it's a simple misunderstanding.

If someone is unhappy about something it is either best to ignore it or to report it to the Admin and not mention it on open forum. :blue thumb: :)

Admin. Please delete this thread. I was acting on behalf of a member who was not happy. Matter now solved. Apologies for any misunderstanding.

                @Mike Allen

Hi Mike, to be honest, I can see no reason to delete this thread as it was created in compassion for a member who, you say, was distressed for some reason. I don't think the thread has caused offence to any member and it does raise questions and awareness of the way people may post without realising that their opinion may offend or hurt other members. I'm pretty sure that most members of the GC Gang are compassionate, warm hearted, and friendly. I'm not sure if you are referring to an earlier incident where new member who rarely, posts made some offensive comments but that incident was dealt with by Admin but, of course, the damage to members feelings was done.

Can I respectfully suggest that the appropriate way to deal with this is either using the blue 'Report' link that lives at the bottom of the post(s) concerned OR at a push send ALL of the admin team a PM which will allow us to discuss and act appropriately (or not, as the case may be)

I totally echo this. Reminders of the importance of compassion and kindness are needed, and these threads, even if sparked by just an isolated event, can offer insight and guidance especially for new or prospective members of our community.

This forum has a great sense of kindness and compassion, and clear action steps when something is not within the boundaries. The admin team is sorting things out, and the general kindness of the members means that the ones of us who accidentally, or even on purpose, violate the rules are treated kindly when/if the issue is resolved.

Calling out the need of compassion and kindness is valuable and needed. We do need reminders and points of self- checks every now and then.

Thanks @Mike Allen and the Admin team. :)
