Trust No One.

FC, Armandii and ricky, your responses have reassured me. I'd like to thank the Admin team for all the hard work you do to ensure we're all as safe as possible on the forum.
I try to stick to gardening issues and will never knowingly give any personal details to anyone.
I wonder if the OP was genuinely concerned, as I, or simply mischiefmaking? It's a shame, though, if we get to the point of 'trusting no one', as friends.

 

Not in any way talking about anyone in this forum, but as you know, typed words and pictures put up on the screen can be from anyone and can come from those evil scammers who use false identities on dating sites or pretend they are young childen after similiar friends etc etc.

Afraid its the sad reality of the wild west web we have.

As you say, just stick to related conversation without giving any personal info out, you can never be too safe, just like anyone knocking on your door you do not let them in unless you already know them. Even more true for us oldies who are not as quick off the mark these days.

 

I very much doubt it was mischief-making, sounded more like a mixture of concern and curiosity to me.

Some one tryed to con me, it was a friend untill i stopped him in his tracks he is now not a friend, but he did say " It's better to be con-ed by some one you know than some one you don't know"

Even the some police don't tell you the truth and try to lead you up the garden path

 

Yes, shiney, that's exactly what I mean.I'm relatively new on here and the issue being brought up by a long time experienced poster had me wonder what was going on.
I hope Mike hasn't taken offence at what I said.

 

Their has been a lot of talk about spammers on this thread.
I'm sorry for appearing 'thick' and not very computer savvy. (let's blame me age !!!)
but can you tell me what exactly the spammers hope to get out of this,??

Hasnt really worried me its just that Ive never been able to understand what a spammer gains from jiggering someones computer up.
I have the Norton so I presume Im ok.

You can all count yourselves lucky to belong to this site. I belong to another one which I joined in 2008 (and which shall remain nameless) where there are many spam blogs and photos, with links for you to click on etc
and the members themselves have to flag them, and eventually (maybe by the next day) they are removed.

The trouble is that the people who created the site don't bother with it, and have handed the 'looking after' of it to a volunteer, who doesn't take part in the forum at all except to delete these posts when he notices they've been flagged.

I must say in its defence though, I used to enjoy that site and have made several good friends there, but I don't look at it much now. Lots of the 'old' members have left.
