    Hello @Sheal

The Pension Cash Sum has come at the perfect time, once I cash it in on my 55 Birthday on 9 July it will help pay for the Patio and Paving to be re-done and also for the Seating I am looking at getting plus other bits and pieces :)

It may also pay for the cost of getting the front lawn edged again, I will see what happens.

I am going to be booking the work on the Patio and Paving to be done the last week in July or more likely the first week in August, hopefully things go smoothly.

    Thanks

    Kevin

      Hello all

Well, the work to re-do the Patio and Paving has been booked in for the first week in August, hopefully all will go well.

Today, I have run the cabling for the lighting around the garden and the Transformer and Sensor have been mounted on the wall next to the Outdoor Socket.

The Sensor will turn on the lights at Sunset for a chosen number of Hours, I will probably set it to 5Hours, for now.

I shortened the power cable from the Transformer to remove the excess length of cable, then went to get a DuraPlug from the drawer, and, no plug, I could of sworn I had another one, so eBay it is.

I have only placed one Spotlight currently, highlighting the Water Feature, there will be another two Spotlights, for now, highlighting each of the trees.

I will no doubt add more Spotlights in the future as the Transformer has plenty of capacity at 60W.

Now, I just have to wait for the DuraPlug to arrive.

      Thanks

      Kevin

Being honest I'm not a fan of garden lighting Kevin. I think of it as unnecessary pollution, particularly for surrounding neighbours who may not like it lighting up their own properties.

          Hello @Sheal

I agree on the lighting and am making sure that the spotlights only light the intended area of my own garden.

Also, my neighbours all have floodlights mounted high up which lights up the whole area.

The Spotlights that I am using are directed so should not be an issue.

          Thanks

          Kevin

I suppose if you live in an urban area then many of the lights will be used as a means of security. I can understand that.

It's good to hear your garden lights will be low key. :dbgrtmb:

              Hello @Sheal

Yes, I live in a Semi Detached house on a Housing Estate and many of the houses do have floodlights etc.

I was born in a small village outside Cambridge and I still consider that to be my home.

I wish I was still there but that is not going to happen, unfortunately.

I was born a Cam Tab, have always been a Cam Tab and will always be a Cam Tab :)

              Thanks

There's a little bit of envy from me. I've never been one to have firm roots somewhere. I was born in Essex and have gradually moved further north. I retired to the Scottish Highlands almost five years ago and wish I'd made the move much earlier, I feel settled here. :)

                  Hello @Sheal

Glad to hear you now feel settled.

Unfortunately, I had no say in moving here.

My Dad worked for British Rail and he was transferred here, unfortunately, a couple of years later he passed.

Mum did look into moving us back to Cambridge but it was not possible.

Financially, moving from Cambridge to here was not an issue, going from here to Cambridge is a whole other matter

                  Thanks

                  Kevin

Unfortunately when we're young we don't really get a say in our parents decisions. I'm sorry you lost your dad and so soon after making the move.

I can understand it not being feasible to move back to Cambridge, it's quite an expensive area.

When Mr S and I decided to move further north we had a discussion with our young family at the time and they were happy to make the move. I have three children and they are now scattered far and wide. My elder daughter and her family are still on the Isle of Man where we lived for twenty four years before coming to Scotland. My son lives in America and my younger daughter lives in Canada.

                      Hello @Sheal

My Aunt and Uncle lived on the Isle of Man for a number of years until they both passed.

Unfortunately, we never got to visit.

It's a shame you didn't get to visit the island, it's a lovely place. I created a thread here on GC when I was living there because I was the only member from there. Many people on mainland Britain know very little about it. If you are interested I can post the link to it for you.

                        Hello @Sheal

Yes, please post the link, it will interesting to read :)

Well, I just got an Email from the Landscaper regarding the Setts in the Front Garden:

Haven’t forgot, just trying to get some money together to cover costs, will be in touch

He has been saying this now since February.

I sent a reply asking if he will be able to do the work this Month (April) since I have jobs that have been delayed due to this issue, if not then I will just have the Setts removed and leave it as a cut lawn edge.

I will see what his reply is.

                        Thanks

                        Kevin

                          Hello all

I have told the Landscaper that I no longer need the Setts replacing and that i am going to remove them and leave the lawn with a cut edge, for now.

I need to move on to other jobs that this issue has been holding up.

I am not a happy bunny but I would rather be out of pocket than deal with someone who appears to have no intention of putting things right.

                          Thanks

                          Kevin

                            Hi Kevin,

The fact that the landscaper contacted you suggested he may still have done the work - but when he is ready. I don't think he would have bothered e-mailing you otherwise. It's not a problem now anyway as you've decided to remove the setts and allows you to get on with other things.

                              Hello @Sheal

Whilst it is true that the Landscaper has been emailing it is also true that each time he has done so it is to give a reason as to why is is unable to do the work at the time.

How long should I wait for a Landscaper to rectify an issue of his own making?

This issue has been causing me unnecessary stress and worry which, now that I have taken the step to tell the Landscaper that I no longer need him, has subsided significantly.

                              Sorry for the moan

Also, thanks for the link, much appreciated.

                              Kevin
