Hello, Im a mature student currently living in Swansea. This is the first year I've had access to a garden and I've always wanted to have an edible forest garden. I thought I'd start small (I'm only here for a few years do didn't want to invest in too much time or money).

Before I got here, 3 years ago, the place was covered in knotweed. It was treated and covered and subsequently the garden was used as a bit of a dump since. My land lady has given me the freedom to do what I wanted with the garden so I've cleared it and dug it over into two beds (7ft X3ft approx) and two mini beds (I needed more room for the courgette!)

I'm hoping to have an organic, polyculture, permaculture type garden and continue with a mostly no dig method. There's very little in the way of small birds and insect life so I'm hoping some of the flowers I plant will not only benefit me but also bring more wildlife to the area and create a beneficial ecosystem within the garden.

I've vastly overestimated how many seeds would germinate in the greenhouse so it seems my local community will also benefit from the free seedlings when they are big enough!

I'm starting with courgette, kale, 3 types of cabbage, 2 types of aubergine, cos lettuce, 3 types of tomato, broccoli, runner beans, chilli, Bell peppers, radish, leeks and eventually spinach! Typical me, just jumps right in there!
Anyway that's enough rambling! Nice to meet you all.

      Hi,

      Welcome to the forum.

Sure the birds and bees etc will soon return to the garden now you have started it off again.

Just don't plant out your tender veg too early or without protection while we still have these frosty nights, if you are getting them in S .Wales.

Been sowing some Perpetual Spinach today, which they say is better to grow than the true Spinach.

It looks like you’ve put in a lot of work preparing those beds. I hope you get a bumper crop!

Thank you! Luckily last frost is over here, just windy at the moment and due a good downpour. I'm starting to harden off a few bits for middle of May. Ooh, I will have a look at that spinach, thank you :)

Hi! I have radish going all the time, globe and French breakfast which I just munch on like sweets! Spring onion would rarely get used I think, so I opted out and went for the leeks instead

Thank you! Yeah me too. I have like 11 tomato seedlings (although only very small leaves right now), but I'm hoping to put the dehydrator to good use this harvest
