Has My Rhubarb Gone to Seed?

    Hi. Are my suspicions correct and 20210510_110823.jpg has my rhubarb gone to seed? If so why does this happen? Thank you in advance.

    They all do that, it's natural. I snap the flower buds off to encourage stem growth.

      I've been cutting flower buds off mine this weekend ,I take them right back to the base.I put it down to a dry Spring in these parts,not sure if that's the case though.:dunno:

            Every year they flower like anything else, just cut it off.

              If you leave it then they say that it saps the strength. Our rhubarb patch is over 70 years old and we remove the flowering stem down to the base and we have a wonderful crop each year. :dbgrtmb:

                Me too Eddybaby,Think Rhubarb don't mind the cold but we've had a real real dry spell lately ,I think that's what knarks them.:blue thumb:

                  Those things can grow as high as a man. Normally I cut em off as soon as they show themselves, but from time to time I let one flower to its hearts content and I am always surprised how big they can get.

                  I you can spare one of your plants harvests then try it out and leave it be. It's truly a sight to behold.
