I am so excited and elated!
Yesterday, I observed a scruffy little youngster on the sunflower feeder.
He returned 2 or 3 times again today and I noticed a bit of pale red on his bum....a young woodpecker....♡♡♡
We have been feeding his parents throughout the winter and it warms my heart to think that somehow they have led him to the food source that helped bring him into the world.
I will try and get a picture of him as soon as I can,

A few young ones have appeared in recently in the garden, sparrows, starlings wood pigeons and blackbirds but not the siskins, dunnocks wagtails or robins yet.

We still just have three siskins, obviously there is no other female around to make two pairs.

Whiskered Tern, a rare visitor here passing through to Eastern Europe, a dark marsh Tern unlike our coastal white ones.
Despite the name it doesn't appear to have any whiskers (or even stubble).

            Question:-

We have a lot of wood pigeons in the garden and a number of them have distinctly pinkish breasts. Are they young ones?

@shiney adults have pink breasts but young ones can be distinguished by the lack of a white neck patch.

The Siskins and Goldfinches are liking the new feeder which is Pigeon/Dove proof, Sparrows and Blue Tits are using it too. The Pigeons can now only forage at the bottom for spillages.

Not pictures of birds but of some bird apartment blocks.

In this one there is a robins' nest (with young) about 18" from the left hand wall and a blackbirds' nest 2ft to the right of it with eggs. Near the bottom a wren is making a nest, I hope, as it is flying in with a lot of moss. The window on the left is my officeand my computer screen backs on to the window. The robins tend to hover, like a hummingbird, at the window before going into the nest.
                  P1510539.JPG

There are two occupied blackbird nests in here (picture taken form my office window)
                  P1510540.JPG

And a blackbird nesting in this Euonymous for the fifth year in a row (by the lounge window)
                  P1510541.JPG

So far, I spotted two other robins' nests in the garden and only two woodpecker nests (always used to have four)

I've never seen one of these in my garden until recently.
This one returns three or four times a day.

Only ever had a Jay in the garden once, usually shy birds, probably wouldn't go for anything smaller than nuts.
