    Ah yes, the hot wax....!

we often grill them, and invariably, I manage to get one of the occasional hot ones... Hubby thought I was a wuss, then he had a bite of the one on my plate..:mute:

They are definitely hotter when they turn red, but are one of my “every year to grow” chillies. The seeds are more widely available now too...
(They are quite a bit hotter than Hungarian Black, so maybe that’s where the comparison comes from?)

It's all relative, isn't it? :-) OH doesn't consider them worth eating unless they take the lining off your throat (and stomach). At a recent plant swap the only plants not snapped up by the Frenchies were chillies. Not particularly hot ones, but just the mention of 'piment' had them diving for cover lol. It's interesting that the HHW vary from fruit to fruit, though. P.S. the stuffing was minced chorizo and feta. Gorgeous!

Most Cayennes don't grow purple but some can. Some can be striped yellow and purple as they grow. They usually turn red eventually. They can be eaten at any stage of growth but the longer on the plant the hotter they become. :blue thumb:

There are some varieties of chilli that just grow purple.

Those look great @CanadianLori ! ( Ring i assume is ring of fire? does Shiney have a variety named after them? ) I've got little flower buds on all 3 of my apache plants .... two of those are in 2 litre pots and one in a 1 litre still. I'm figuring I'm just going to leave them be now vs repotting bigger if they fruit ok at these sizes! My photography is as bad as my gardening , for which I apologise in advance ! 2 litre pot photo attached: apache.jpg

Yes. The seeds were a bonus for attending Shineyland, pre Covid. So sad that it has been cancelled twice now due to '19.

Hot bread-made every Sunday morning, hot wine jelly-a couple times a year, gobblers revenge cranberry sauce at Christmas and for presents to friends, sauces. I also add some to different meals such as chile con carne and bruschetta mix.

I do NOT like hot spicy food so I cook my portion without the peppers. But it seems all of my friends and a lot of my family do like to be tortured with every bite!

Lori, I wondered if the curry evening after shiney's Open Day had tempted you to try more spicy food.

John (JWK) what is the plant with the big leaves on the extreme right in the black pot? (not a chilli?) and the other taller chilli/pepper plants in that row -- are those overwintered or they are that big from seed this season?
