They always quote it will create hundreds of jobs, as if that is the beginning and end to everything.
More jobs mean more people move to the area which then means more housing.

And someone will be handing out back handers to get the planning permission.

Good morning @pete I wouldn't have minded if they were to build a new hospital:)

They have been building a new hospital around here for a number of years, even had large amounts of green space around it up for sale, only problem is its a private hospital.

Massive place with no body in it, meanwhile the NHS has got waiting lists a mile long.

The thing is once they start developing greenfield sites it all starts to creep.

The perfect storm, doubt prices will drop back to pre Covid levels either. I think these prices will be the norm in the future.

It was reported by the Horticultural Society and Westlands that 3 million people took up gardening in 2020 in the UK. Imagine if the UK population grew by that amount in 12 months, could we feed them, where would you house them?

All I have heard from manufacturers and commercial growers during the last 6 months, demand is now unsustainable. When demand is outstripping supply, prices only go one way, UP.

I feel for you all! Prices of anything to do with gardening or DIY have always been astonomical here (well, apart from big garden machinery), but they are now creeping slowly downwards as the novel idea of retail competition takes hold. We also have the option of buying plants and equipment online from countries such as Belgium and Holland. Transport costs are still very high, and always will be while governments take a huge chunk in tax on fuel, but things are going in the right direction at last.

However if a fair percentage of those 'new' gardeners grow a few vegetables whilst they're about it, then that at least might offset some of the price rises.
Half a dozen runner beans at the supermarket around 3 quid.
A simple large wig wam could produce them a hundred quids worth over a good season.

I've just had a quick look and both Tesco and Sainsbury's are selling runner beans at £5.56 a kilo/£2.52 per lb. The price will drop in a few weeks but it's still one of the best value plants to grow in the garden.

I wish I had more patience! The new section of fence is an estimated 4 to 6 week delivery and installation time frame and this is only the end of week 3. Trying to keep weeds from invading my lawn is becoming harder and harder.

Ooh nice new fence @CanadianLori - you know how I love a good barrier between myself and horrid neighbours :heehee:

I will be looking for some outdoor evergreen plants (most likely FAKE! ARGH NEVER THOUGHT ID SAY IT) to block out the next door neighbour at the bungalow/holiday let...

I'll sum up my moans simply:

1)Neighbour at holiday let have told one set of guests to "F OFF" after accusing them of lighting a fire with petrol (i checked my cctv and it was a tiny disposable BBQ).

                        2) Same neighbour popped her head in to my last guests to ask if everything was ok! (None of your business love - get off my property!)

(I've not said anything to her yet - she obviously hasn't seen my cctv cameras which also have audio)

                        3) Had incident with last holiday makers - STOLE kitchen equipment (I caught them on cctv red handed). They left the place a **** hole - absolutely filthy - oil on worktops, disgusting toilet (not even flushed), filthy bath, even put dirty pots back in cupboards - I dont understand how people can make such dirt in 3 nights. They broke Air Bnb house rules by inviting more people to stay over, smoking etc - even chucking cig ends down the drains - the ones that werent scattered about the garden.

So I've not had chance to be on the forum due to sorting all that out.

MOAN OVER - was good to get that off my chest.

Well @shiney they did have a hearty variety of dandelions but that is being taken over by oxalis and creeping charlie, shameful for such small properties. It is the only house on the street that looks like a dump but I am lucky. Their 10 foot obsolete and rusted out satellite dish is on the side of the yard opposite me. The other side gets the pleasure of that

@snorky, hopefully future renters will be better behaved. I don't think I could handle the aggro. But I am old ;)

                            @Snorky85
We book the same holiday cottage every year in Cornwall.
It's always immaculate when we arrive and likewise we leave it clean and tidy.
The lady that owns it is lovely.
I guess that's the risk with renters... Any stinker can turn up.

@JR Dave and I do the same down in Cornwall-we leave it immaculate-how we have found it. I just dont get some people's mentality. Everyone else so far has been good though-I guess we were bound to get a stinker eventually

I think the last place I went took a deposit, if the place was left in a mess you didn't get it back.
Of course that was allowing for certain things not being exactly right.
