When planting the garden I had one aubergine plant that I did not have room for, so, I planted it in a large unused pot. It is now three times the size of the garden plants and has flowers forming. The garden gets full sun but I have to move this heavy plant around a few times a day to give it the proper amount of sun. That said, it may be worth the effort as it is a great looking plant.

A story behind this Phytolacca:- our original plant came from the private garden of the person who was the designer of the winter garden at Anglesey Abbey and their head gardener. The flowers were a much darker pink.

Over the years people had asked us for root cuttings of it and one year the plant died . Twelve years later (this year) it has appeared 15ft from the original site and a much lighter colour

We have, literally, hundreds of Campanula and flower arrangers come round regularly to cut them for arrangements. They normally go away with a car full of different types of foliage as well. It's a way to keep a lot of our plants pruned :heehee:

Fortunately we planted this Dracunculus at least 100ft from the house. It's the "what's that horrible smell" plant. I think there are another five flowers to open yet.

The poppies with the white flowers in front with their silver foliage is a beautiful combination.

@SuzFlowers The white flowers are are Lychnis coronaria :blue thumb:

The last picture in my last post #260 is a mixture of the white and the cerise coloured Lychnis. We do have a very few orange ones as well. The bees love all of them. :) We have lots of flowers that the bees especially like and the garden is always full of their buzzing. :dbgrtmb:

‘Lychnis’ That’s good to know. Your colour schemes are really nice. Something new for me to look out for. I have planted these little flowers this year in the hope bees will like them. Virginia Stock: 62747F40-1F8A-46F3-87F4-36B1D326B339.jpeg I had a bare patch where I planted a lovely alstroemeria last year and a nice salvia ‘love & wishes’ last year. I foolishly thought ‘frost hardy’ was sufficient on the label but they must have died over winter as they never came back. I was so cross at myself for foolishly planting them (and wasting £20!) that I made myself buy only seeds this year to fill the spot. Learning all the time.

Alstromeria are usually hardy but need the right conditions
How to grow alstroemerias / RHS Gardening

Salvia 'love and wishes' is only hardy in milder parts of the country - usually the south and west coastal areas. :noidea: Quite a few Salvias are hardy.

We have two Alstroemerias, a deep red and a beautiful burnt orange and both have finished blooming. I think the heat is too much for them so when recuperated they will be put in a more shaded position. At 13 Euros each they are too expensive to lose. I know you buy such at their peak but thought they would go longer.

Just a few pictures of the roof garden, its really enjoying the rain, most years it never flowers so well and is just a shriveled clump of moss and house leeks.

Wow, that is fantastic Pete. That would be great on our Jungle Room roof which is corregated concrete with terracotta tiles on top. However, think everything would bake and crumble up there ... nice thought though!
