I'd buy locally and look before you buy.

If possible a nursery as opposed to a large garden centre.

Getting a vine established is never a fast process, you do need to be patient.

Had to take a second look before saying something wrong.

My "Vanessa" is growing like crazy.
I also planted a "Venus", but she sits in partial shade and only gets direct sunlight after 14:00. Hopefully the brick wall behind her makes up for it. She also is a great grower, but doesn't produce grapes just yet (also planted 2020).

Regarding suppliers, I won't be a lot of help since I bought them in Germany where I live. I just know both grapes didn't die in north east Germany, so they probably will survive Great Britain as well. Just happened to know about "Dornfelder" because we used to live in that region.

So, perhaps just type in 'local grape vine suppliers in Leeds area' ? I'm a bit annoyed that i've waited so long for this one i have now to establish with it not being a good of the vine eating grape. Well, the stupid thing hasn't produced anything yet anyway!

ah ok. not idea if Leeds has a similar climate to NE Germany! lol Vanessa seems to be a good choice.

Just out of interest would Sale grapes grow in tropical regions?

Most of the supermarket grapes we (German here) get are either grown in southern Germany, or they come from France, Italy or Spain. So I wouldn't call that "tropical"

We bought our grape vines from an online shop a family member recommended. There are quite a few and surprisingly, most of them actually have good quality plants.

Only reason I suggest buying local is if you go to a decent nursery you can ask for advice, you also get to see what you are buying.
Another point is it will be in growth at this time of the year so should be reasonably big.
Of course winter pruning will knock the size back next winter, but that is another story.

This is my "Vanessa" after heavily pruning it for the third time this year alone (planted mid 2020). Please ignore the rubble, we are currently rebuilding the attic.

And this is my "Venus", also after being pruned recently. The vines were growing up to the second roof.
