You sent me a fair amount of seed years ago, and I'm pretty sure you sent me some from some trees local to you, pepper tree and bead tree (Melia)included with the Brachy.

Made some video clips of my own garden plants as they are developing and remembered I had a short clip of a Mahonia I planted when it first flowered. The one in the video clip arrived with some sort of disease that has meant that some of the older leaves go red and die back but a couple of other ones I have consistently looked very healthy. Even the one in the clip is growing out of whatever disease problem it had and is not showing much sign of it now. It has got a bit bigger since but is at the back of the border so does not stand out that much. It is usually more of an early spring flowering plant here so it is good to get the blooms so early in the year and my grandmother had a more mature one that had a very nice fragrance when it was in bloom. The leaves are prickly but the few I have planted have been a bit slow to increase in size and not required any cutting back. I think if you give your one enough space you might not need to interfere with it much once it is planted but there are different varieties and some grow bigger than others. Found this information page that says regular pruning is not really necessary.

        Happy gardening!

I should say I'm only going to be growing it as a pot plant, it's probably far too tender to grow outside in the UK.
I will be trying it at various temperatures as I've always found stated temperatures for plants are usually higher than the plant survives at .
