I've spent the last 15 years trying to convince the French that it's just not cricket to convert perfectly good English names to their peculiar versions. There's no such city as Londres, FCS! The river is the Thames..pronounced tems. How difficult is it to say 'Dover'? Grrrrrr! Have the Brits re-invented Paris or the Seine? Mais non! On the other hand, I can forgive them the slight adaptation of Putin. It's only one letter away from swearing in French :roflol:

:roflol::roflol::roflol: No beret required. Hippy is fine! We replaced the oysters with a JCB when it became apparent that they're only any good on sand.....

What about The English Channel? How did the French work out to call it after the 50th Department? That's a lump of land!

I'm having to deal with a benefit dept. for one of the people I help look after.

He's perfectly capable of doing things himself, with physical limitations, but the government dept. have gone over to automated telephone systems. Not a good move when a reasonable number of them may have speech problems.

He's very intelligent but his physical problems also affect his speech slightly. The automated system wasn't able to understand his answers, whereas nobody has the slightest problem understanding him on the phone or in person.

My brother just can't cope with such services either, he forgets and gets so confused and distressed.

It's not a sport I tend to watch but I made an exception tonight, glad I did, we have a British female grand slam winner.

Not a moan, more an observation, but does anyone else think Monty Donn's summer house looks more like a corrugated iron shed.
Can't say I like the colour much either, tends to "clash" I think.

I'm sure that was what he has been calling it.
I think it's actually made of wood, but the design looks like corrugated iron from a distance, the apex of the roof makes the proportions all seem wrong and that horrible green wash like colour is terrible.
                                Probably Farrow and Ball. :mute:
