    Roadworks, repairs and closures! :wallbanging:

Our road is now in its fifth day of being closed. They're doing water main repairs (damaged by the electricity people, I think) but the leak had not affected the road traffic much. It's a two way country road (it was an A road in the old days :rolleyespink:) and 2 miles long. The works are only on one side of the road but they decided to close it and park their vehicles on both sides.

The signs are typical of the non-communicative 'Road closed' signs which don't tell you where on the road it is closed. So delivery vehicles end up driving well over a mile along the road to find the address they want is the other side of the closure. The shortest designated diversion route is an extra six miles and on roads that are not suitable for heavy vehicles although they are using it because the main road route that has so many roadworks (they've been building a new housing estate for three years and a feeder road for a new motorway junction just a few hundred yards from there for just as long) that during the day it adds about an hour for them.

On the plus side, our road is the most suitable alternative route to getting stuck in the road rebuilding so the traffic on it had increased by fivefold with commuters doing their best to avoid the works. It's not an alternative now. Now they're just getting frustrated by poor signage and struggling to turn round in our road whilst avoiding the ditch. Some haven't quite managed the avoiding ditch part of it :hate-shocked:.

A friend who lives near the 'water leak' says that the workmen only seem to be there for about three hours a day. Another friend, who used to be foreman of roadworks, had a look at the job and chatted to the workmen and he told me that when he was doing the job it would have been fixed in a single overnight shift and the road would not have needed closing.

Yes @shiney we all have a friend who could have done it better and quicker back in 1960 when you could play football in the road all day and only saw 2 cars :heehee::heehee::heehee:

Now I wasn't going to moan to day BUT the powers to be have caused utter chaos in the Medway Towns please don't read this link if you are of a sensitive caring nature and not emotionally equipped for this modern life:heehee:

I've just found out that our road should be open again tonight. :th scifD36:

The completion of the other roadworks are already overdue and they say they should finish in a couple of years

That is disgusting @wiseowl you must report it to the fly tipping hotline, hopefully the morons left something to identify themselves.

I hate flytippers!! Maybe as a result of all the garden waste collections being cancelled. People here have been quick off the mark offering to empty a green bin for £20 a time!

Moron is far to nice word to use wiseowl, in fact I do not think there is a suitable word to describe those type of people. We live across to the entrance of a large wildlife park so see this fly tipping on a weekly basis, people just drive up and dump, mostly at night but sometimes in daylight, a few days ago it was a house clearance, carpets and mattresses but it sometimes involves old tires, 2 tons of them, to industrial waste, sick and tired of trying to get the council to fit cctv, I have my own but its not good enough to read plates at 120 yards.

But by gum, tip discarded Christmas trees and lawn cuttings outside the rangers office and what do you know, up goes an all dancing and singing solar and wind powered cctv on a huge mast with more cameras than a bank has.

Went out one day and confronted a few of these idiots but all it did was scare them off, they came back at 3am, not only tipped the junk, but set fire to it as well.

My neighbour was telling me he took three bags of rubble to our local tip.
They weighed them and charged him £8 .
It was not commercial rubbish just left overs from a bit of DIY.
Now I know it's wrong and I do know people are making a business out of this.
But it is easy to see why.

Stop the need and the problem solves itself.
Higher the prices at the tip the more it will happen.

Our recycling centre is also free, unless your in a transit van, I don't understand why people fly tip here, the drive here, a mile and half away is the recycling center that's open seven blooming days a week, maybe its the thrill of doing something illegal at night, who knows how these peoples mind works.

Best one was a couple of bin bags of used nappies dumped in the overgrowth, I was walking past with my dog when it happened, from a scruffy looking couple using a push chair, so I and my trusty hound followed them, later in the evening when it was dark half those nappies ended up through the culprits letter box, the rest piled up against the front door, well if I can pick up dog doo doo I can post used nappies, must have got the message because we had no more of it.

If someone had offered to get rid of my neighbours rubble for £2 , and pick it up as well, you can see why it happens.
Most of it is done by dishonest people stepping in and filling a need that is there.

We used to have a lorry turn up once a month and park in the area, you could take any rubbish you like and throw it in it.
Its no more, so you have to book a slot in advance, and pay when you get there, depending on what you want to dump.

Common sense tells you the local "Dell boy" with his van is seeing it as a way of making money.
This time next year they will be millionaires.;)
