Oh sorry Jiffy:). Correct and you probably know already that due to the pandemic drivers all of a sudden were allowed to extend their hours which had previously been deemed dangerous! Before if you went over your hours you could loose your licence and livelihood but woe betide that should be any gaps on the shelves and drivers were told to work longer hours.
You would be what my relative would call a trucker through and through. My relative knew many like yourself and sympathised with them being told how to do a job by someone of about 20 who had never driven a truck. My relatives loves the trucks and was happy tramping but was not so happy with the ghastly unsocial hours dreadful conditions of the lorry parks and general disgusting abuse they got from the public when only doing their job. Now works half the hours for over double the pay. Maybe some young people would like to get their hands dirty, hmm.

When the Gulf war was on we only had 3 hours sleep per night and 1 of them was to have a wash and rest :pathd:
Then a lady driver joins us and she wasn't even aloud to use the lady's showers etc, so we bloke's said that she could join us at the washing time (all guy's made a pat not to do anything naughty) so she could have a wash and things and behind locked doors :dbgrtmb:

I see ITV and BBC are doing their best cause panic regarding fuel delivery.
The really annoying part is they are stirring the proverbial while telling people not to panic.

There were basically no shortages of food during the first lockdown when people panic bought. The situation was so ridiculous that someone my relative knows( HGV driver) had to wait 36 hours at an abattoir for his booked load as the slaughter-men couldn’t kill the animals quickly enough to satisfy the hoarding which was going on. It was not as tho we were a war situation, pathetic. No doubt everybody will be rushing out to fill their cars, gerry cans etc to the brim with our I’m alright jack attitude these days.

Government statement yesterday that there's no shortage of petrol and not to panic is probably what caused the long queues at the supermarket filling station I stopped at yesterday afternoon.

P.S. I think during previous shortages some filling stations restricted use of petrol cans, so if you need petrol for your mower, brushcutter, rotorvator, chainsaw, etc., get to a garage quick with every empty can you can lay your hands on. :stirpot:

              N.B. There is a 30L limit for non-workplace premises.

But it's all media driven, covid was the same, Brexit was the same.

Things had settled slightly regarding covid and sensational headlines were having little effect on the public, so now they are going to keep banging on about this and turn it into a major crisis.

I just looked up the symptoms for Covid to refresh my memory of why these panic buys are happening. The common symptoms listed do not include the trots or the urge to travel long distances so I cannot understand why toilet paper here or over there, petrol was targeted by hoarders :noidea:

Stockpiling any item is totally wrong and selfish IMO. Get what you need no more.

I'm sorry to say it's down to people being selfish. No rhyme or reason why loo roll was stock piled - but once one person does it - and it is reported in the media - the others follow suit.

Same for petrol - a couple of stations shut down for 5 minutes - it's reported on the BBC - next thing we know there are queues for petrol.

                      People never learn.

Marketing strategy for Mr Wharburton (baker here in the UK) - start a rumour that there is a shortage of bread - that should boost sales nicely...

It won't work - I think Boris knows this - other countries are also struggling with lorry drivers. On the TV this morning - a haulier saying it's down to covid. Older drivers retiring and no younger drivers able to be tested to replace them.

Covid has shown us who the essential workers really are - where there seems to little correlation between salary and role. Celebrities - what's the point?

The town near us is gridlocked with people queuing up for petrol! Friends coming to lunch with us took an hour to get out of town when it normally takes 3 minutes.

And I thought 5 cars in front of me at Tesco filling station at 14:30 in the afternoon was a long queue.

I'd driven to Worcestershire and back, in a hurry to get there so decided to fill up on the way back when only about 20% full.

Luckily I also took my fuel cans with me as I'm clearing stuff for autumn rotorvating and have a fair bit of strimming/brush cutting plus loads of chainsawing to do.

Googling something like 'petrol queues' produces images of chaos all over the country, which will lead to further chaos.

I blame the industry employers for relying on cheap imported labour rather than training UK staff and paying decent wages. They've had over 5 years to change their ways and improve pay, conditions and training, but think if they force a crisis by doing nothing they will be allowed to continue with their old ways.

If the media stopped going on about it, it would settle overnight.
But tomorrow morning first thing they will be restoking the fire.
