I did fill my tank yesterday, because it was almost empty and because it was payday.... and because I always fill my tank every payday. I won't be back at a filling station for weeks now, and to be blunt if everyone simply followed their normal buying pattern there would be no issue.

I think @pete is right - a minimum charge would stop all of these idiots that are rushing in and sploshing £20 in just to top off their tanks, when they don't actually need it. A maximum would penalise those who do bigger mileages and they are almost certainly not done by choice, especially at this time of year.

The images that are circulating on social media, its seems more to do with people filling as many jerry cans they can etc etc. Next there will be a shortage of jerry cans, the ebay sellers will be loving all this panic buying.

I think, as usual, there is lots of money to be made out of panic buying.
Makes you really think why it happens.:dunno::whistle:

Apparently, UK is granting 10 500 temporary visas for truck drivers. So say the Finnish news, everybody's first choice of hard facts . (Or, if it is a slow day in news front, you will be treated with a story of a cow that escaped the pen and went for a delightful week out. I believe the cow is called Mustikki, but will need to check back on the sources. )

Anyhow, so we are suffering from unemployment, shortage of labour, too much immigration, too little immigration, and whatnot all at once.

Sorry for the oversimplified moan, I do understand it's not that simple. I'm just getting a bit annoyed of everything being wrong, whichever way you look at it.

The visas may have been allowed, but it is not going to sort the problem - Poland are well over 100,000 drivers short, Germany around 69,000; if they can't get workers there where no visas are required, why would we be any different where there is that extra layer of a visa needed?

This country needs to take a long hard look at how it treats the working class and essential workers, that might go some way to sorting the problems out.

Mrs L came back today in a right snit as a teacher she needed to get some fuel and found a place but with a 30 quid limit. She filled expecting the machine to shut off at £30 which it didn't so she ended up with almost £31... And the cashier told her off :roflol:

Oooh, I don't know about that - I've set a few straight over the years when Miss C was going through school. Could be quite fun tying them up in their own bull...

The problem with a minimum charge is many people can't afford a full tank these days, I've often seen people, sometimes NHS workers, just getting £10 or £20. This was before the panic buying situation.
