Basically then you think the 27 countries in the EU should be able to ride rough shod over any smaller single country and impose their laws on them.

Sounds a bit like empire building to me.
And I think we all know that the EU consists of 27 countries, but not 27 equal countries when it comes to has the final say.

Nope. I said if two partners are negotiating, then both partners need to agree before there is a solution. Or there won't be a solution.

You wouldn't start haggling for a lower price at a store if you don't like the prices. You buy something or get out - easy as that. Maybe get a small discount. But you wouldn't call them a bully for not giving it to you at half price.

Situation changes if you come with a bunch of friends and offer to buy half their stock at once. Then you surely will be in a much better position.

Call it an empire if you want. But then you should definitely stop shopping at Co-op, Tesco or Sainsbury's. Because that same principle is used when they negotiate prices with farmers and suppliers.

I think it's a bit more complicated than buying something in a shop.
People's livelihoods are at stake and the way it's going even nationalities are at stake.
Let's see what the EU come up with today.
Strange how they seem to think it's ok to put a hard border between The UK and NI.
As it was put by some one on the lunchtime news, imagine turning the the whole thing round and put a hard border between S Ireland and the EU.

They wouldn't like it would they.

Technically there is already, the air and the sea and you have to jump through hoops to cross them. Pleased we don't go anywhere as I wouldn't fancy going through all the paperwork and testing.

I remember suggesting this approach some time ago - but that it should apply to everything that comes from the other parts of the UK and remains in NI. It appears that the penny has dropped:

Most checks on food products being shipped to, and remaining in, Northern Ireland from Great Britain will be scrapped under new proposals from the EU.

(my previous post - GFA - Good Friday Agreement- FTA - Free Trade Agreement ).

Just as long as a sausage doesn't cross into southern Ireland things will be ok.

I think it's incredible that the EU have already come out with a draft idea. The UK I'm sure will hate it and it will get all aggravated for months on end. They could just say that's a grand gesture, cheers. And sign with a reservation that future revision might be required and get on with life

I see the EU has imposed anti dumping tariff on imported Russian timber. This was due to a complaint lodged in August 2020 by the Woodstock consortium on behalf of two of the union members. The European commission imposed the 6 month anti dumping tariff in June this year regardless of members from the other 25 EU countries opposing the tariff.

A cool million - is this the price of true democracy.....

The EU's top court has told Poland to pay a daily fine of €1m (£850,000) in a row over judicial reforms.

Russian timber was always considered the best for softwood.
                    Canadian is good.
I'm sure most of the plywood we used came from the far East, apart from Birch ply from Finland, but that was very expensive in comparison and only use internally.

Thank god. It was about time. After all the stunts Poland pulled (like removing the independence of judicial oversight) and several warnings over the course of some years the EU finally acted. I hope this will knock some sense into them. And by "them" I mean the politicians and hardcore conservatives. Sadly they won't act for a while since it's "only" tax payer money being spent. Guess they will now flex for their peers before finally succumbing to the majority who are pretty dependent an EU money

Oh Maccers - what are you up to?

A British trawler has been seized by France and another has been fined, amid an escalating row over post-Brexit fishing rights.
