Has anyone ever successfully grown a Solanum Glasnevin in a container ?? I have one that someone bought for me and I would like to grow it to about 5ft high in a container. Can this be achieved,,,obviously it would need pruning every year.

    Any advice appreciated.

Yes , it can be grown in container ,with support such as trellis etc .
Use a loam based compost such as John Innes No3 , much better for long term use than peat based in containers.
Keeping it to 5ft would be a challenge though as l would imagine the pruning required would severely limit the flowering ! .
They flower on 2 year old wood so keeping some of the new growth intact will ensure flowers next year. :)

I've had one in a big pot since last year, it is about 3 ft tall.

Thank you for replies. Having read Tomcat's advice I think there might be some better and easier choices other than the Solanum idea !!
