I can't say as it is possible to identify the allotment from this thread - I don't want to let the cat out of the bag. This started at the back end of last year - I am looking to be told that the practice has stopped at the AGM this Friday.

      I see, local allotment politics.
That can be as murky as in any other walk of life ;)

Just been doing a bit of resurch.

Apparently the members of my allotment association are jointly liable if any claims arise against the association - as we are unincorporated - so not a separate legal entity. There will be no mincing of words on the 22nd. I'm not at all happy about being exposed to risk by the actions of one individual.

Going to the AGM now. If you stick your head out of the window at 7.30 - you'll be able to hear the shouting...

Cor..that was a lively debate. I've been 'chucked' off the Committee and officially labelled a 'trouble maker'...

Did you ask them to minute that you do not approve of the practice (whatever it is)? That should cover you in case of problems. You should also ask for a copy of the minutes.

After a bit more 'probing' I found out something that gave me some assurance that we were not putting ourselves in a position to be sued. The Chair acknowleged what had happened and asked how we could avoid similar problems in the future - I was happy to respond. I also tried to make the point that if anything goes wrong - there is no 'Association' to go after - the aggrieved party will go after named individuals - probably the Chair who will also drag in the other Committee members even if they had no involvement in the decision.

Anyway, I'm not on the Committee any more - so they are free to explore the world of litigation without me.

UPDATE - I have discussed the situation with Mrs. C. and she has told me, in no uncertain terms, that I can only go back to collect my tools. So, that's that then.

Nope - that's it. Probably a wise decision given what I now know.

Disturbing :th scifD36:. Got to the allotment this morning to pick up some more tools. The gate to my plot was open as was the door to the poly tunnel. Someone has been wandering around my plot.

There's nothing left of value to me there - so no eyebrows will go up if I turn up on the last couple of visits to find that the shed has been broken into.

I knew it - too many odd shaped heads at the AGM - this is what happens.

(Did harvest some sprouts - so will enjoy them for dinner tonight ).

I'm really sorry to read about how things have turned out for you @clanless, but frankly I think you're better off out of it! It seems impossible to simply have an allotment without getting involved in allotment politics nowadays and the most neurotic and vocal members always seem to get their way to 'keep the peace'. It defeats the entire object of having somewhere relaxed to escape to where you can do something productive at your own pace! :dunno:
