I just took a good piece, stripped the lower leaves off and rooted in water.

That's good to know @Victoria. I have grown lots from seed and have been astonished at how different they were from the parent.

Lesson learned: if I want the same one, cuttings are needed!

I learned this when I developed my love of Hibiscus. It is so disappointing when something comes not as anticipated. They root really quickly.

I agree they root easily in water, I've done it many times.

What I have this year has been grown from seed. So does that mean whatever seed I collect from these might be true to the parent or how many generations does it take?

its a hit and miss with open pollinated seeds I doubt any would look like the parents but worth growing as thats how you get new varieties

Any time I've grown coleus, it's been from seed. I then take lots of cuttings of the ones that look the best. They sometimes root in hours rather than days in the jam jar with water method. Then i get sick of the slugs and snails killing them off in spring....so I don't grow them for a few years, then I go back to the top, rinse and repeat. I'm on the don't grow them part of the cycle at the moment:whistle:

                            Hi All

I tell you not !! they have rooted so quickly.... I took the cuttings on the Monday and by the Friday I could see the start of roots ... I have changed the water so they have fresh I will be able to pot up this week ...

They cost a lot for something that so easy to propagate... I will have to set up a Coleus Business I hope no one thinks is a colonic business :loll:
