Well, he has beened and gonned. Sadly the socket in the office where the router lives is on a different circuit to the living room where the TV lives so no using the Powerline apparatus.

Did he actually try a Powerline adapter ?

Looking on the web seems they can work across different circuits as long as they go back to the same consumer unit, but it can be very variable, works for some folk, not for others.

As for Wifi Extenders, again goes back to that question, how far from the router is your TV and how many brick walls are between the two ?

As for a cable, depending on your house layout, another possible way , could it be taken and run along the outside wall or even buried in some small conduiting ?

He got a booster from BT. £90 or so is a bit too much for us. Going to try a cheap Extender to see what happens.
Problem with a cable is that it would have to go either across the loft and down which means large (ish) holes in the ceiling to get the connectors through, or putting the cable across the Hall where it would be visible on top of the floor tiles to get across to the Living room.
Will read up on Powerline in different circuits. Ta.

I think your first choice for a TV is a POWERLINE . I use TP Link on mine. Plug it in near the router and connect to router. Plug second unit near TV and connect to Tv. As Ricky101 said, I thought that any circuit going through the same consumer unit would be fine. Has your whizz kid got it right  I'm sure the computer boffins on here can confirm Ricky101.

The interesting part of the article was that if the Powerline does not work one can send it back. Now I just have to persuade she who is always right, that we actually need it. Don't hold yer breff.

Just read the instructions twice, and follow them to the letter. I know us men don't "do" instructions :heehee: You should get everything in the kit including the cables to connect Powerline 1 to your router, and Powerline 2 into the back of your TV.

I have four Powerline adapters. One for router, one for second PC and one for TV and the fourth because they come in twos. All work perfectly (Shhh! :fingers crossed:).

I often don't read instructions because they make the simplest things seem very complicated.

On this kind of thing, yes, I read the instructions but usually still don't understand them.

Try putting together a Gteck vacuum cleaner, even with the instructions!

Adapters arrived. No instruction leaflet included. BUT the online stuff just says plug them in via the ethernet cable and press the buttons.
