Hi all. I've got an area in the corner of the garden where I've laid wood chips for a space to put chairs in and stuff. Doing a bit of clearing up just now, I found a lot of some strange looking sprouting fungus body. It looks almost like broccoli or some kind of seaweed. There were large patches of it, maybe 3 feet long. I kicked it, and it broke into chunks like in the picture. There seems to be white fungus running along the surface of the soil under the mulch. Does anyone know what it is?

If it's not harmful, I'll let it be. If not, I'll need to start some kind of scorched-earth mission, I guess.

It's a coral fungus. You'll have to google for more info as all I know is it's common!

Just did what I suggested, says it's common in mulched areas as it's a decomposer type. In other words it feeds on dead wood. Not harmful but don't go licking it!!

I'd keep it as a pet if it were in my garden, rather beautiful IMO and it probably doesn't need additional feeding!

Thanks folks! I'm slightly regretting having booted that clump then - but of course that's only the fruiting body and not the actual main fungus. I'm happy to let it do its thing with the mulch then.
