If ever there was a time that makes the government of this country look like a bunch of stupid self centred idiots that is the time.
    Televising it is embarrassing.

      Good news.

WHO reckon vaccines do work against Omicron. It's also looking like Omicron is less severe (illness) than Delta.

To a numb skull like me this makes sense - a virus wants to replicate - not to kill off its host quickly so they can't spread the virus.

Hmm we'll wait and see. South African researchers have found that apparently Pfizer gives less immunity to it too.
Media can report what they will...only time will tell.

Way back when this all started I remember it being said, cant remember by who, that viruses mutate , and in general, each mutation weakens the virus.
That's not to say it doesn't become more infectious, but that the potency decreases.

If that is true or not, I dont know, but it is possible.

If these variants are becoming more infectious you have to wonder just how infectious the first strain was.

          Had my Pfizer today.

It is true - a virus is good at mutating one thing at a time - so in the case of Omicron it's increased transmissibility. There isn't enough 'whoomph' in a virus to change more than one of its characteristics each go.

So I am told by a scientific brainiac type.

We may well have hit upon the 'golden ticket' with Omicron - it wipes out Delta but not people. I'm praying that this is indeed the case.

It's looking more positive - the medical bod who identified Omicron is convinced that we are all panicking about nothing.

By the looks of it - 2022 - Omicron will be no more of a nuisance than a cold.

Are 'we' panicking or just reacting to the scaremongers that we could do without? It hasn't panicked me, I'm dealing with it my own way.

Do you have faith that the numbers given are accurate? I don't. They were even found to be augmenting the numbers early on and 'corrected' their error and that is before we get to the whole fudge where deaths are recorded of people who died 'with' and not 'of' Covid and the further fudge where they died within 28 days of a positive test (even if they were hit by a bus)

Even when the more dangerous strains of the virus were prevalent and we were locked down, we had parties in number 10, Neil Ferguson going off to get his leg over, Matt Hancock getting his leg over on government property, Dom Cummings taking himself for an eye test using the cats eyes, Rosie Duffield going to get her leg over, Margaret Ferrer travelling the length of the country not once but twice. not to mention none of them wearing masks at the G7, G20 & COP26 as well as allowing people to travel from all over the world without quarantine etc - - travelling mostly on private jets to come and lecture us that we are awful human beings for heating our homes and driving to work. Oh, and we are also told to have windows open in the middle of winter to prevent spread of a virus, just as (conveniently) the domestic energy market implodes.

We are being taken for mugs.

I'm getting really fed up with all this about last year's party, and do the government think they are above the law.
Haven't they always been, I thought it was part of the perks of the job.

Vaccine passports, can't work this out.
You would need a vaccine passport or a negative test?
How are they the same thing, I was under the impression that you can still catch covid if you are vaccinated, it just hopefully makes you less ill.

Bearing that in mind, shouldn't every one have to have a negative test regardless of vaccine status.

It's not always the case that a new variant = bad news. In this case just the opposite. I know nowt about medical issues but I do listen to those who do - the impression I'm getting is that Boris should ease restrictions and let Omicron get on with it.

But then - it's better to be criticised for over reacting rather than under reacting.

I will continue to follow the rules - because they are the law - but I have changed my mind now - I don't think they are necessary anymore.

South Africa are some weeks ahead of us with regards to Omicron - 75% of infections are now Omicron. They have seen a very small increase in hospital admissions - and a large chunk of these are people with Omicron who have been admitted for other reasons. 99% of people with covid in hospital are unvaccinated as well. South Africa shows us what will probably happen in the UK - it's good news.

Interesting that the view emerging is that Omicron is a mix of Covid-19 and the common cold - patient zero caught a cold and covid at the same time - the result was Omicron - which goes some way to explain why Omicron symptoms are mild compared to Covid-19.

I can see light at the end of the tunnel - 2022 is going to be a good year.
