Weatherproof Housing.

I recently ordered a Camtraptions camera trap from the UK and while awaiting its arrival I decided to make weatherproof housings for my cameras. Many photographers that camera trap leave their equipment in the woods for days or weeks at a time, however, I have no intention of leaving my photo gear anywhere but on my property. Still, I want to protect the equipment from any unforeseen weather events. For about 18 British pounds I constructed two weather proof housings. They are made from small hard cases that open in the back to allow viewing and focusing. I cut 3" circles in the boxes and affixed 3" PVC plumbing connectors on the box to accommodate the lenses. The smaller box will accommodate the DSLR with a normal lens, the larger box will accommodate the camera and 300mm lens.

Wireless remote devices will be used to trigger the cameras and strobes when in use so there was no need to drill holes for wires. Foam is being used to cushion the cameras and hold them in place.

One box has a 95mm UV filter on the opening and I have ordered a filter for the larger box. For cosmetic purposes I intend to touch up the sealant with black paint once it cures.

I consider it a very small investment in time and money to protect very expensive equipment. They are very crude and not very pretty but the price was right and they work just fine.
