@JWK, those toilet rolls look like a good idea. A couple of years ago I tried those cardboard-like decomposable little pots they sell in Poundland, but found that they disintegrated too quickly when wet and I had to put them inside plastic plantpots to hold them together, and ended up just using small plastic plantpots, but your point about some plants disliking root disturbance is important, and I sometimes struggle to get small plants out of their pots, so maybe I will have another attempt to use them, or try toilet rolls. I am experimenting with so many seeds at the moment it is worth trying both on a small scale. I still have some of those black plastic trays like the one in your picture that I bought with tiny plastic plant pots in Poundland, which in your picture look useful for putting toilet rolls in to hold them and catch water.

I’ll send my children round to stay if you like. They go through toilet roll faster than kings cross station!

I like my runner beans to have a bit more space so I save and cut the tubes in half and then wrap the halves around a salt container as shown. I'll have enough ready by late April.. Just a bit of masking tape to hold them together and then pack tightly together when sowing the beans.

:ideaIPB: This went straight on my (short) list of "Reasons To Have A Man In The House" (just under "carrying heavy objects") and into my (so far imaginary) Tinder account requirements.

And straight away, apologies to any male members, it's just a phase I'm going through right now. In real life gender bashing is not my cup of tea at all but just now I'm fishing for gender joke opportunities. Or any joke opportunities :) )

Good idea, I've also saved some tall yogurt and cream pots too. Any container which gives a nice longish root space.

My Morning Glory, Ipomoea Heavenly Blue, has climbed to the top of its stake. So far it is ok indoors but I am wondering when to risk planting it outside. We put some trellis netting against the wall for it, and also for nasturtiums and sweet peas. I read that last frosts here are on average late March, but maybe I should wait until April, and even then for such a tender plant it is probably too early to plant outside.

I would wait until the risk of frost has passed.
