I used to give ungerminated marrow seed a gentle squeeze.
Just try one, if just pulp oozes out the end it's likely they have rotted.

I didn't like to say earlier, but that's a technique the wife has tried on me but I best not elaborate on it..

Over the week end I noticed my Spring onions coming up, I sowed them on 15th April, also some Bedfordshire Champion Onions are just germinating today I think.
Many peas sown in pots have decided to pop up as well but I think lots have failed. They were loose ones I bought but next year I'll have pre packed ones. I think the loose ones were stale.
Raddishes and Turnips have come to a standstill :frown:
Roma tomato seeds failed so I decided to buy one. In the garden centre I found a pot with two plants in it so I picked that  and only got charged for one :dbgrtmb:

Since my previous attempt to grow 'uchiki kuri' squash I tried two more seeds, but with a less wet compost.
And happily I have now succeeded as they've just popped up.

First proper harvest of leaves from outside salads sown end of february. I finished my winter salads last week, mainly chicory and radiccio, so am quite looking forward to a much less bitter salad bowl

Also got some french and runner bean seeds to sow this weekend

Some of my Runner Beans are started to come up a Pinkish colour, with some the normal Green colour.
All sown in the same compost in the same light, any ideas folks for an oldy:old:

PS, the seeds were saved from last years crop.

Just a bit of genetic variation I'd say John - nothing to worry about.

Spring lettuce are producing far more than I can eat, as well as herbs like dill, coriander and parsley. Looking forward to some spring onions soon

Pea shoots are amazing. So much food from such a small amount of space and compost. This is my second crop from the same sprouting. IMG_20220522_183515.jpg

I'm going to do that with my left over peas later in the season as they are getting on a bit. I do have about 1 square metre of peas for shoots in the ground, I sowed them in modules back in February and have had quite a few harvests from them so far with more to come. Really great spring salad

Mine are just mushy peas from an old packet in the back of the food cupboard.

I can't resist picking a couple every time I walk past. Health sweeties! :blue thumb:

First garlic scapes of the year starting to show, both inside greenhouse and outside.

Put up the support for runner/climbing/borlotti beans

Sowed some oxhella maincrop carrots between rows of garlic

Pricked out the second batch of the years lettuce /salads and things like swede/kale/romanesco.

Was going to sow some purple sprouting but can't find my seeds.
