i know, it was a dilemma for a long time. For the first couple of years it was potted. I planted it in the ground a while back and it started to grow quite well.
It grew tall but the trunk was always skinny. It was suggested I should do what I did to promote side growth. it seems to be working. Though I’m not sure if the shoots would have been better in the front side, not facing the fence?!

That is severe! It shows how tough they are, I've seen them regrown from the root after a really hard winter - 2010 if I remember correctly a lot were hit hard by the bad winter and some recovered.

I've found a fair bit of variation in these, some plants will form thick trunks fairly quickly, often the ones that flower at a shorter height, while others go upwards faster and slimmer.

Yes, We have one on the opposite side of the garden which is growing much slower with a thicker trunk and much wider leaves. I guess there are different variants.

I read the title "lobbing the cordy" and thought it was going in the skip or over the fence.
I'm not a fan of the "Torbay Palm" everybody thinks I should have some as I live in Torbay.

I’m in Manchester so if it brings a bit of “Torbay” to my garden.. it’s fine by me:)

I'd probably reduce them down to just a couple but it depends what you want.
I think they could have very thin stems if you keep too many.

Not tried it seriously, some say that they root others say no.
To be honest a small plant is so cheap I don't think it's worth the effort.
