i purchased some Cordless secateur recently off ebay , recommended by a pro gardener , who has used them all day.

I spend a lot of time, after pruning, cutting back etc, standing over garden Bins cutting things down to go in -

these have made a huge difference i can now do a lot more , no hand aches, and also cut back larger stems without having to change tools

I didn't know you could get corded secateurs. All the secateurs I've ever used have been cordless.

Couldn't quite understand what the point of them was at first, but now I get it if you have hundreds of cuts to make or weak/problem hands!

yep, that was the issue - a half day cutting down a load of stuff - often needs to be cut back to get into our garden bins for collection - would sometimes be at it for hour or 3
Also now when up the ladder i dont have to change tools all the time, cut back a load of stuff growing over from neighbours , brambles, buddleia , other things i know note the name - almost a bin full of stuff, to then cut up into the bin

so much easier , not sure i have problem hands - just getting older

yea, i dont think we can use that in the garden bins , but when i looked into that a few years ago - the cost was very high for anything decent and a lot of reviews of the cheaper ones were very poor.
I did look at 2nd hand, but then i had to store it somewhere - so dismissed that idea a while back
and no idea how abused a 2nd hand would be

When I was a young idiot, I did work experience in a steel fabrication workshop. I was impressed by how the hydraulic folding machine always stopped lowering the clamp exactly as it touched the steel sheet. I figured it just detected whatever was in its jaws. So, I stuck my hand in and pressed the start button. As I'm waiting patiently for the incredibly slow clamp jaws to come down, I'm looking around randomly. It's then I spotted a sample of the same steel sheet off to the side, and I realised the clamp didn't detect anything, it was another part of the machine that detected it. I removed my hand before the clamp got down to me. Had I not noticed in time, my wrist would have ended up exactly 3 millimetres thick. I was very foolish as a youth when I think back.

My ex's uncle was the gardener at Braco castle back in the day when cordless hedge trimmers meant a tractor battery in a wheelbarrow. One morning, as he finished trimming, the blade went snick.. snick... snick.... snick..... snick. And as he picked it up by the blade it went snick, lopping his little finger off.

Wow, I like the look of those cordless secateurs. My hands are arthritic, do you think they would help me to prune shrubs. Do you press a button to close the jaws and then press open them? V.

Interesting, have never seen them compared to the corded ones before. I think that cord would seriously start to get on my nerves after a while, not a great idea around a load of branches! Those Bahco secateurs are seriously impressive!
