    Hi,

I'd like to know if it is possible to keep a banana plant indoors during the winter.
I am planning a tropical garden for next year but i'd like to know if any of these plants are ok kept in pots and brought into the house during the cold months.

    Thanks

:) Good evening, gardenlearner, and welcome to GC.

I unfortunately can't answer your question because of my location ...... however, our expert Banana Man or several others on the forum in the UK in your locality will no doubt come along and advise you.

In the meantime, enjoy the forum.

GL, if it`s a Musa Basjoo it will be fine as long as it`s kept frost free. You don`t want to keep it in too hot an atmosphere overwinter or you`ll have to spend several weeks hardening it off again in the spring.

As has been said, it depends a lot on which type of banana you are growing.

Some are pretty hardy others are very tender.:)

I tried to keep ensette ventricosm - probably spelt that wrong, but a lovely purple one through last winter. It looked fantastic in the heated greenhouse all winter, but despite not over watering it, in the spring it upped its leggs and dropped dead on me!
