All I have done today is scratch the bark of my Viburnum "Charles Lamont" to see if it is still alive, and it appears to be,

I've been getting so disheartened by lack of rainfall and having to euthanase lots of shrivelled miseries......have just noticed the most beautiful- new, smiling, bright pink flower on the water lily in my little pond-in-a-trug. It's flowered for the first time ever....over 5 years...and has cheered me up so much :-)

Watering and deadheading,. I've also been walking round and taking notes on what I think will need moving to more appropriate places in the borders this will also include the remaining Dahlias grown from seed this year that are still in pots.

I've also used Cineraira this year in some of my pots they too will be found permanent homes in the borders.

Established Wallflowers have been trimmed and reshaped....new potted on ones have been watered.

More watering will be done this evening as the temps drop.

I've been standing around looking, and wondering how I can alter the garden to make it more manageable. I haven't come up with any bright ideas yet.

Nothing more than watering, deadheading & removing a few dead leaves. I did move a couple of pots around & used a broken branch from one of the variegated Geraniums in one of the hanging baskets for cuttings.

We've been cutting back lots of plants that have gone over because of the heat and lack of water and cut back the Wisteria. We're still losing plants every day and it looks like two more Hydrangeas have gone to meet their maker.

It's still taking a couple of hours a day to water our pots and veggies.

On the up side, the beans, courgettes and squash are getting into their stride and picking takes an hour a day. That includes the plums, where the multitude of wasps are happily buzzing around me. I just have to be careful not to tread on them whilst they busily eat the plums on the ground and I need to make sure not to tread on the entrance to their underground nest. I wear leather gloves for picking in case there is a wasp hidden the other side of the plum I'm picking.

Same problem here too @shiney so upsetting to see plants dying in front of your eyes.:cry3:
The great compost heap up above is being kept busy that's for sure.

Today we're working on sorting out some of our nursery areas to see what plants can be transported to the charity garden centre. I usually take a car load every three weeks when we consider them suitable. This time I shall see whether they can down with their small truck to collect quite a lot and carry on bringing them on for sale. The proceeds from plants that we know we can sell from here go to a different charity. With a bit of luck our watering will be cut down to about an hour a day, plus the veggies.

As it's cooler, turning the compost heap. Maybe.

Intermittent rain here - so popping in and out between showers.

I'm pleased to say that the frogs are still here - in the middle of pruning back the Chrysanthemum Max - a frog leapt out of the nearby Rudbeckia Goldsturm. It should have really been competing in the Commonwealth Games - a single massive leap straight into the pond - not a ripple on the water surface.

That has just brightened my day . I was wondering why there were fewer slugs this year - perhaps Freddy is helping us out :blue thumb:.

Clearing pots & trays, will clean them later and find somewhere to store them in the shed.

Not a lot. Gave the straggly bits on the top of the hedge a trim and spent time trying to break up some of my clay soil. Too cold to do anything else.

I have to prepare for a garden party. That mostly involves picking up all the plums that have fell off the tree, inspecting each one individually to find the good ones from the slug eaten ones, and putting the rubbish ones in the compost bin. I think that'll do for today. Although I suppose I'd better do a quick walkabout to make sure there's nothing hazardous down far end. We demolished an old project a few weeks ago and I haven't done a tip run yet so I just need to make sure there's no nails sticking up out of the old bits of wood we smashed up.
