You could get a cheap new handset from Argos, not locked to any network. Then a free or cheap SIM card and put a tenner on it. If you did that, you just need to check that the SIM you choose has no expiry time on the credit, and if course the price per minute.

Three mobile charge 3p per minute on their SIM only deal (or they did when I last looked), and with Three you can set up WiFi calling, so if you're somewhere where you're connected to WiFi you can make calls for free.

If I'm not mistaken the phone company must supply you with a backup battery for your router if they have put you on VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). The battery may not last more than half an hour but it's better than nothing. Not sure how it works.

It is not Voice over Internet Protocol as far as I know. The router is direct to the BT cable but the handset is wifi.

Some 'blingkin' insect is beheading my flowers (especially Phlox) ! It's just snapping the stems and leaving them to die
And today it has snapped the lovely flowering stem on my Clivia  .... WHY ?? ... it hasn't eaten it, just snapped it off and left it to die
It seems pointless to me

I've put the Clivia in water but I don't know if it will open.

We did ours online on the 17th July and received our new ones 10 days ( hubs) and 12 days ( mine) later. Our old ones arrived back the day after. :):blue thumb:

Mine only took two weeks and I lost two days because they didn't accept first photo. They say three weeks for the return of my old one, which I haven't got yet, but it is coming via Royal Mail rather than Courier so that answers that!

Could be rabbits. They do that with our cowslips every year.

It isn't rabbits @shiney, thanks anyway, it's too high up near the tops of the stems, and the Clivia was inside a perspex shelter with the doors closed. I've never seen rabbits around here anyway. I think it must be an insect.
I'm sorry to hear about your Cowslips, I believe you mentioned it last spring.

Are there nibbling marks? Seems to be a bird is more likely the culprit.

It's possibly a bird could be doing it to the flowers outside but no birds could get into the perspex shelter and into the corner where the Clivia is kept.
I don't see many birds landing in my garden anyway, just an occasional sparrow. I think they know I don't like them
I didn't notice nibbling marks, the stems were just snapped off. I remember the same thing happening last year.
I can't understand the reason behind it, if they ate it or took it to build a nest it would make more sense but this is sheer vandalism :frown:

I got a similar email and text on Thursday (3 days after starting the process) saying they have received my old passport. I guess it must take a little longer sending from Portugal @Victoria

I received my new passport within two weeks of starting the process. This is return of the old one which they said would be returned by Royal Mail but it appears it is coming via DHL as the new one did,. I am very impressed with the service, especially from overseas. It was much slower 10 years ago.

My Mum's BT 'deal' is coming to an end this month - they have been pestering her to renew (me really as I deal with my Mum's bills).

Upon taking out another 'deal' - I didn't know that by 2025 everyone will be using VOIP to make calls - as BT are shutting down the current copper wired landlines. This does make sense to me - why maintain two infrastructures - internet and voice.

If there is a power outage - then neither internet of VOIP will work - so people will need to buy a back up mobile 'phone - just in case.

The new VOIP 'phone provided by BT looks just like any other cordless 'phone - and Mum has maintained her original 'phone number - so she is happy.

It always used to be the case that Mobile phone networks failed first in power cuts and landlines still worked.
Sounds like the new ideas mean bugger all is going to work in a power cut.
