    Beautiful blooms Michael.

We have quite a few but only of a few varieties( I keep taking cuttings). I have one variety that I know for sure is hardy and have them dotted around the garden , we cut them right back each year as they grow grow very quickly and get huge. As I'm not sure of all the others I dig them up and over winter them in the big coldframe.....if they were hardy it would certainly save me a job and release up some much needed space in the cf.

I don't cut them down to the ground @Upsydaisy, that's why 'Margaret' is about 7 feet tall ... I just cut the dead bits off.
Maybe you could look up the varieties of yours if you know their names and then you'd be able to tell which ones are hardy and which ones are not. It would save some work for you as well as room in the cf.

That's a lovely hanging one @Logan, I believe it is hardy too.

That's the issue Michael, I don't know the names even of the big hardy ones. I do have cuttings of Mrs Popple from my parents garden that's hardy and a nice pink cutting from my sister's. I have Googled them but to be honest some can look extremely similar to other ones.

Gosh yes I can believe you!! Despite being cut to the ground one is still over 6ft now! They can be a tad on the thuggy side I think and take over a bit, I've dread to think what they would be like if we didn't cut them down in Autumn.:yikes:

You could dig half of them up and see what happens to the rest.

That's great Jenny, they say to make them ripen faster is to cut off all of the leaves that's around the ripening fruit.

Thank you @Victoria it is about 8 feet tall and always full of blooms every summer. My father bought it and I brought it here before we sold the house after my parents died.

I hope your H. rosa-sinensis will produce lots of flowers for you.

The Hibiscus rosa-sinensis are just young plants but have lots of buds but they seem to bloom one at a time and as they are 'one day wonders' I don't seem to get en masse flowering. Here are the ones in pots this morning ... lots of buds ...

And something odd, my Photinia 'Red Robin' is turning red ... shouldn't it do this in the Spring?

I just looked at the RHS website and it says in spring/summer and on young foliage.

I believe the new leaves are always red @Victoria, mine has some new reddish leaves now too. It's like Pieris, most growth seems to be in the spring but mine has new leaves right now and they are bright red.
