Hello, I'd noticed something had been raising up the block paving on my drive. This is what I found when I lifted some of the blocks! I've included a photo of the only plants nearby but I'm not convinced it's any of those? Many thanks if anyone can ID it and tell me best thing to do.
Welcome to the forums! Interesting. I think you need to look further afield. Maybe next door or in the street. Is there a larger tree? Those roots will not will not be from your Acer. How large is that conifer behind the Acer?
Thanks, the conifer is about 12ft tall but there are no other plants or trees anywhere else nearby as neighbours garden is entirely block paved and there is nothing growing in the pavement or road.
You have a good idea of the general direction the roots are coming from. Does that not point to any large trees or shrubs, climbers.
When I zoomed in they do look sort of similar..they are jointed..not just smooth. However they are forming a perfect semi circle as if growing from one plant. Interesting mystery.
If it was Equisetum what you see would be the shoots - but flattened by the stones. Shoots of Equisetum are jointed like that, which was what gave me the impression. If the stones could be left up for a few weeks we would be able to see whether they turn vertical and start to green up.
But part of it appears to have already grown above the blocks and it still looks like roots. I would have expected it to have turned green if that was the case.
