Anybody watched this programme? American loggers felling mainly Douglas fir in Oregon , north - west USA. The series follows the life of four logging firms, looks a tough and dangerous job. there's a high casualty rate in the industry. They don't seem to wear any protective clothing apart from battered metal hats.
It is their own family business FLOWERPOT, I suppose they have their own H&S methods. Its a case of financial servival. This is the mother of all rough jobs. In the case of the Ice Truckers they were very H&S conscious.
The lack of safety kit worn is amazing; in this country virtually all trained full time users wear PPE... to not do so would be unthinkable. Even as someone who these days only uses my saws around one or two days a week, I wear chainsaw protection virtually all the time so as to be protected for all the five minute jobs that crop up eg cutting the top off a fence post etc. Another baffling thing from a professional view point is the size of saws, the trees are softwood and not hugely substantial yet they are running 32" bars on 95cc husky 595s a lot of needless weight. A 7occ saw with 24" bar would be my choice with a larger saw as back up.
I watched the first few episodes but spoilt it by constantly pointing out the faults & dodgy work methods. The wife got miffed. I got miffed. Haven't watched any since.
I have to admit Bob and I are hooked ( sorry bad pun for J.Browning) on the show just as we were with Ice Road Truckers, it's all about 'real' people but I do cringe the way the guys on Axemen carry their chain saws not to mention how they casually jump out of the way when a log slips they really must have nerves of steel!Hel.xxx.
Don't watch it not very proffesional, giving people the wrong idea, nothing clever about it.not bravery stupidity, shouldn't put these programmes on tv I could go on but then who am I to criticise, does this sound familiar:D:D
