The Blondies

I have no idea if such big-big-big furries can be called pets, or should they go under livestock, but livestock sounded a bit too impersonal, so here they come: our Blondies are home!
They arrived yesterday night in the dark, and they are at the moment esploring the place and grazing it bare (what a hell of lawn mower, a ready fresh-made fertilizer besides!).



With the halter, Kaylee, without, TomBoy (and yes, he is a BOY).



My brain has still not registered that they are really here, so expect me to be a bit dazed for a couple of days:flag:

 

Wow, they are real beauties, Ivory. What breed are they? How old are they?

What will you do with them and any other critters you may have when you go on your travels?

 

Well, they will be our prime travel mean, carrying our luggage while we walk alongside, and our two cats will also come with us (THAT will be the real adventure... but there is no way in the universe I can leave them behind).

The horses are two Haflinger ponies (la-la-large ponies!),of 6 years, a mare and a gelding. Very strong horses while not being huge, they are built like furry tanks, lol. Still a bit shy (understandably), hope to soon be friends!

I know its late in the season, but I hope they are not prone to laminitis. they look lovely - remind me a bit of the Norwegian fijord ponies.

 

I think they should be ok, the place has been grazed rather heavily already (we had cows until very recently in this patch) so the grass was really not lush.

Yep, ponies were planned in from the beginning, it was the agreement with hubby, we could go off travelling, but not by car, and I am not much of a bicycle rider... that left us with feet... and luggage... and I always loved horses.
Hubby now keeps saying "you want to convince your wife to do the craziest thing, just throw a horse in the bargain" lol.

My horses are hilarious: one rolls and immediately the other one has to roll too.

At her fittest when she was younger, she would happily take us 30 to 35 miles a day and never seemed to get tired. Do I take it you are going to drive them as a pair?

 

Not really. They will be,in a certain sense, pack animals, meaning that they will indeed pull two small carts (for various reasons two small ones was more practical than one big one for us), but we will always walk alongside them, not drive them.
