Stipa Tennuisima

Bought three microscopic baby plants on ebay and they are sitting in individual pots out back -just beginning to come on now. But google tells me they like poor soil, and rich compost will make them limp and floppy.. Should I take them out of the pots and just put them in the garden or should I nurture them until they get a bit biggr? Currently about 8" long .

 

It's the size of the rootball at planting out that counts. I'd let them bulk up a bit before committing them to the garden. Once they're established, be firm and chop them before the graceful plumes run to seed and invade the garden, unless you want it all over the place

 

@fumanchu, They should be big enough to go in the garden but don't give them a rich place, your gravel seems like a good place for them.

Ok many thanks both. The rootball I think must be tiny, will leave it a while yet. I did want it in clumps dotted around the gravel, I hope that works. TY!
