Group 3 clematis recommendations

Hi everyone. I'm a novice Gardner so please go easy on me
Can anyone recommend an easy to grow group 3 clematis for a West facing boarder. Preferably a red or pink one thanks.If you can post pictures that would be brilliant.

 

Hi @Dropmore The clematis on the web site has a search facility Clematis list search which I used to look for pink group 3 clems for sun or semi-shade which vovers west facing. Lots found and those with a + sign have a photo. Use the site to do a search for red as well.

I'd recommend viticellas as being the most reliable and disease free. Hawthornes nursery hold the national collection and can advise. There are other clematis specialists too.

If you don't mind a non-clinging variety, texensis group Maxima is excellent. Similar colour and form to Princess Diana but a much stronger plant with more flowers.

 

@Dropmore there is one called Abundance:

 

Etoile Violette and Rouge Cardinal are very easy. EV is more of purple, but RC is red.
It also depends on your site as to how well the colour stays. Sunny sites mean that flowers will often fade quite a lot. Niobe is one of my favourites, but on the sunny side of a support, that definitely gets quite bleached.

I have photos of Niobe on an old laptop but it takes ages to load them - sorry.

I like Kermesina. This one is of only the year after I planted it. Group 3 Viticella.

All those clematis look lovely but I especially like the look of kermesina.

I had short listed that one after looking on thorncroft sight so its nice to see it in a garden setting.
Probably go with that them thanks again.
