Hi all can anyone tell me what this is on my rose and if it needs attention. Its a DA rose The pilgrim. Planted it last year , Its been pruned and fed and looks healthy enough apart from the hole on the cane.

It looks like stem damage, it would be best to cut the stem off just below the damage.

I'd say that's sawfly damage, carving out the hollow in the stem. Not something I worry about at all, I sometimes get a cane with slits all the way down, I might have a photo example somewhere, but the rose will bloom regardless. Later in summer you can prune that out to just underneath the slit if you wish, but it won't hurt your rose at this stage.

Other members might have different advice to offer.

      Thanks logan and Mrs Hillard.
It does look like something has been burrowing in so I'll go with sawfly and leave it for now .
Mrs Hillard I think you have given me very good advice on GW as well and I'm very grateful :spinning: .

Dropmore, yes try not to worry about roses too much, I find the less I bother, the easier it is and the more I appreciate them.
