This is a Indian stick insect that has just hatched and an unhatched egg with a 5p for scale.
The stick insect is slightly blurry because it kept running off :).

@pete I'm not sure if they are mimicking scorpions but they do spray a white liquid that can irritate your skin. They sometimes spray when in cleaning them out, it doesn't hurt my skin but it does make me sneeze.

Well I was just going by the fact that if I came across one of them in the wild, being not well up on the subject, I would mistake them for a scorpion.

Are they annual insects like Praying Mantis and our Orb web and Wasp spiders?

They do look a bit like scorpions which might be a defence but unlike scorpions they have little red wings that are for display not for flying. As they age the bright red on the wings goes light pink. They are from South America so your unlikely to meet any in the wild :). The Indian stick insects however (the green ones) are now found in southern England in the 'wild' after coming in on plants. These are harmless though and tend to do what I call stick mode, like they are in the picture, where they pull in there legs and fall off the leaves!

They live for about 1- 2 years, in the first 8ish months they moult every 6ish weeks, if in this time they lose a leg or antenna they can grow it back over a few moults. I know when they are fully grown by there size and when I get an influx of eggs, they can lay 3 to 5 each day. :)

Yes he seems to have a spark but also has his quiet times, already.

They say he is estimated to be nearly 2 yr old.
Just been for his first walk, just round the block, it took ages as he was sniffing and unsure of traffic going by.
