Lock down pond

A project that kept me busy during the spring of 2020, now looking a lot more natural, just a few edging plants to hide bits of the liner still showing, click on the image for a short video.

Lovely pond, burnie! If you find that the edging plants don't cover the liner (especially in winter), I can highly recommend a strip of fake grass run all the way round between stones and water's edge. Some of the fake stuff isn't too garishly coloured and it all fades to an acceptable, natural colour eventually The frogs seem to love it for sunbathing on

Mind your own business (Soleirolia soleriolii) is another plant that you can have around the edges. Does get hit by frosts but comes back.

 

Ajuga replans is another good one for the edges and here it happily grows right down over the rocks etc to the water edge.

I’ve also “planted” little pieces of sedum in small gaps between the rocks and they’ve happily spread too. In fact one has even popped up on the beach where it’s underwater for more time than not in the winter!

It’s one of the common ones you see in garden centres but I can’t remember the name, will try and remember

 

It’s sedum rupestre maybe Angelina.

We’re in the Midlands but the pond is quite exposed and it’s been happy, wet or dry, and through frosts for a couple of years.

 

Those water plants are mostly frogbit and water hawthorn

 

Your pond is lovely! A haven for wildlife and you’ll see it looking slightly different every day. I hope you have some nearby seating so you can watch the comings and goings!
