Potentially silly question - if you put in say, sweet peas past their best, into the compost bin would this have any ramifications when you come to use the compost? Will I end up with loads of sweet peas squirting up? I'm not convinced my bin gets up to high enough temp to be certain of decomposing it properly

I don`t see why they should, Loofah. Like everything else in gardening, you need to experiment and practice. The best thing for building heat in a compost bin is grass clippings.:thumb:

Sweet peas are annuals (I think) and you should be safe there. I know fromexperience that Periwinkles (Vinca maior) is a pain in the aahhh.... you get it... in acold compost, it keeps and keeps, and strings the wholething together most annoyingly. Ivy too.

Gah! I HATE ivy! Been ripping it off the fence today, straight to the council green bin.

Ivory, there`s also a perennial one, Lathyrus. Which is a devil to get rid of when you have it.:thumb:
